Revitalization works restore emblematic places in the city of Rio

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Conservation Department, is revitalizing iconic locations in the city. In celebration of the Bicentennial of Independence, Quinta da Boa Vista underwent a major renovation. In addition, the City Hall has also begun construction in the Glória neighborhood, in Flamengo Park, Madureira Mestre Monarco Park, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and is also renovating 360 squares.

Quinta da Boa Vista

The terraced garden in front of the National Museum, the four gates of the Quinta, the monuments (statue of D. Pedro II; Temple of Apollo; Grotto and Waterfall; Chinese Pagoda; Meditation Dolmens; sculptures Song of the Sirens and Serpent; busts of José Bonifácio, Auguste Glaziou and Nilo Peçanha) and the rocaille elements, such as bridges, benches and railings, were delivered, brand new. The sidewalks, the paving of the internal roads of the Quinta and the surrounding fence, the bathrooms, the multi-sports and synthetic grass courts, the clay court, the concrete benches and the drainage system were also renovated. A Senior Citizens' Gym with exercise equipment was also implemented.

In addition, a commemorative mosaic made of Portuguese stones was installed at the foot of the statue of D. Pedro II, near Alameda das Sapucaias.

Glory Days

Revitalization of the Glória neighborhood is underway, which includes services such as repaving the main roads around the neighborhood, restoring the Glória Wall, resurfacing Portuguese stone and cement floors, replacing gravel and grass, replacing grates and caps, and resurfacing tree collars. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the year in areas 6 (square on the corner of Rua do Catete and Avenida Augusto Severo) and 9 (Praça Marechal Deodoro), which are undergoing complete requalification, as well as milling and resurfacing Avenida Augusto Severo.

Flamengo Park

Complete renovation of Flamengo Park, including the synthetic grass soccer fields and sports courts. Services include the restoration of Portuguese stone, gravel and concrete floors; maintenance of bollards, guardrails and sidewalk protection clamps; planting grass and replacing concrete benches and tables; restoration of the Estrela Bandstand, designed by Affonso Eduardo Reidy; maintenance of the bike path and skate park pavement. Also planned are the restoration of the area around the Estácio de Sá Monument, the Carmem Miranda Museum, the Japanese Pavilion and the amphitheater, as well as the underground passages on Rui Barbosa Avenue and Tucumã and Dois de Dezembro streets. Near the Museum of Modern Art, the Wave Garden and the reflecting pool in front of the museum will be restored.

Lake Rodrigo de Freitas

Milling and resurfacing of the entire Lagoa bike path, in addition to implementing an alternative route in the Parque dos Patins and Corte do Cantagalo sections, points that are temporarily flooded when the level of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas rises and overflows onto the existing bike path. Interlocking paving is also being installed around Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, bringing greater comfort and convenience to pedestrians.

Madureira Park

Conservation and maintenance actions in the Madureira Mestre Monarco Park, with emphasis on the restoration of the tennis court, playground, sports courts and the Olympic Arches deck.

Squares

Revitalization of Praça Claúdio Coutinho, in Leblon, with renovation of the synthetic grass field, new concrete paving around it, installation of interlocking flooring, replacement of the fencing on the sports courts and installation of concrete benches and tables.

Restoration of a square on Avenida Martin Luther King, at number 13.026, in Fazenda Botafogo, with replacement of the clay floor with synthetic grass, painting of the multi-sports court, renovation of the field and court fences, installation of four sets of concrete tables and benches and restoration of the walls with benches.

Renovation of Praça Múcio Leão, in Laranjeiras, with implementation of a psychomotor circuit for children and accessibility ramps; replacement of Portuguese stones and gravel; restoration of gardens, fences, cemented sidewalk and concrete barriers; revitalization of gym equipment; installation of bicycle racks; maintenance of the low wall, concrete benches and a set of tables.
