Passengers using the BRT will be able to make up to three trips using the Bilhete Único Carioca - Archive/City of Rio On November 1st, the Municipal Department of Transportation approved the concession for the operation of the digital ticketing system to the Bilhete Digital consortium, formed by the companies RFC Rastreamento de Frotas Ltda and Alto Tijuca Participações Ltda. The consortium won the bidding process by presenting the best offer, with a grant of R$ 110 million.
Unprecedented in Brazilian capitals and already adopted in several countries, this new system will give the municipality control over fare collection, allow for greater financial transparency, planning with reliable data and improvement of transportation services. The contract is expected to be signed in the coming days and operations will begin in the first half of 2023, starting with the BRT system.
In other municipal means of transport, such as VLT, conventional buses and vans, the digital ticketing system is expected to begin operating in 2024. The concession will be for a period of 12 years, and may be extended for a maximum of the same period.
About the bidding
The first public bidding session for digital ticketing for the accreditation of companies and the opening of envelopes with economic proposals took place on July 12th and was attended by four competitors: Consórcio Bilhete Digital, which presented the best offer, with a grant of R$7 million. Consórcio Tacom offered R$110 million and came in second place. Third place went to the company Sonda Mobility, with a proposal of R$108 million. In fourth place was the company Autopass Bilhete Digital with a bid of R$81 million.
