Implementation of the Smooth Asphalt program in Barra da Tijuca - Rio City Hall The Smooth Asphalt program, run by the Municipal Department of Conservation, will revitalize more than 450 kilometers of roads throughout the city by 2024, prioritizing the major corridors in Rio de Janeiro, which have the highest traffic flow. To date, work has been completed on the following roads: Uranos Street; 24 de Maio Street; São Francisco Xavier Street; Barão do Bom Retiro Street; Mario Ribeiro Street; Lúcio Costa Avenue; Padre Leonel Franca Avenue; São Clemente Street; Epitácio Pessoa Avenue; Senador Bernardo Monteiro Street; Decaminada Padre Guilherme Avenue and Cortume Road.
The result of meticulous work, Smooth Asphalt progresses night after night. In addition to milling, which is the scraping of damaged asphalt, and resurfacing, which consists of applying a new layer of asphalt, services such as deep repair and releveling of buffers, as well as the application of horizontal signage, are performed. As a rule, the teams work from 21 pm to 6 am in order to minimize the impact on traffic.
Execution of Smooth Asphalt by AP (Planning Area) until December 7th:
– Total Executed Area AP1 (Center) and AP2 (South Zone + Tijuca and surroundings): 304.178,65 m² (equivalent to 50,70 km)
– Total Area Executed AP3 (North Zone): 242.624,77 m² (equivalent to 40,44 km)
– Total Executed Area AP4 (Barra, Jacarepaguá and surroundings): 215.611,24 m² (equivalent to 35,94 km)
– Total Executed Area AP5 (West Zone): 259.830,33 m² (equivalent to 43,31 km)
Brazil Avenue
Under the responsibility of the Municipal Infrastructure Department, the Smooth Asphalt on Avenida Brasil, in the stretch between Realengo and Santa Cruz, began on February 4, 2022. By October 31, approximately 17 thousand meters had already been recovered on the road. The works will extend for approximately 25 kilometers.
