Rio City Hall delivered, this Sunday (13/07), another 140 Housing Recognition Terms (TRM) to residents of the Rio Piraquê community, in Guaratiba, in the West Zone of the city.

"There are 140 more regularization titles for you. And we're just getting started. We'll keep moving forward, working harder and making things happen," said Deputy Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.

The ceremony, on Estrada da Matriz, represented a new step forward in the region's land regularization process, a commitment by the municipality to families who have been fighting for decades for official recognition of their homes.

The Rio Piraquê community emerged in the 1970s, occupied by families from the Northeast and residents from areas such as Rio das Pedras, Muzema, Tijuquinha, and Morro do Banco. Over time, it consolidated its position as an urban settlement and, in 2016, was declared an Area of Special Social Interest (AEIS) by Law No. 6.044, integrating the Bairro Maravilha Program.

Land regularization guarantees legal security, secures property ownership, and facilitates access to basic rights such as drinking water, sanitation, electricity, garbage collection, and an official address with a postal code. Furthermore, it increases property value, facilitates access to housing credit, allows for legal purchase and sale negotiations, and ensures that the property can be legally passed on to future generations.

For the Secretary of Community Action, Gustavo Freue, more than just a document, land regularization in the community represents the inclusion of residents on the map of public policies.

"Land regularization has become part of the Community Action Secretariat's structure, which has allowed us to maintain consistency in issuing titles and increase the efficiency of our community outreach efforts. This is the largest investment in the city's history in this area, and our commitment is to ensure that more and more families have access to legal security and the dignity of having their property officially recognized," emphasized Secretary Gustavo Freue.

Since the start of the regularization process, more than 170 TRMs have been issued in the area. With this new delivery, the total number of issued titles rises to more than 300.

A resident of the Rio Piraquê community for 20 years, José Carneiro was grateful to have finally managed to regularize the status of his property.

"It's an extra guarantee. A document we didn't have yet gives us security in case we need to sell and transfer it to someone else."
