Favela with Dignity Program provides more than 1.200 services in Camorim

In its 31st edition, the Favela com Dignidade program served more than 1.200 people in Camorim - Disclosure/ Secretariat of Community Action

The Favela com Dignidade program, from the Community Action Secretariat, had its 9st edition this Saturday (11/31), in Camorim, in the West Zone of Rio. There were 1.204 services provided by several secretariats and municipal agencies, which worked together to offer services to the population. The action was carried out at Estrada dos Bandeirantes, 7.276.

– This union of municipal departments and agencies only strengthens the work that the City Hall develops in favelas and communities to benefit and provide opportunities to people in more vulnerable conditions – said Marlí Peçanha, Secretary of Community Action.

The Maicon Siqueira Family Clinic took care of the well-being of those present through several essential services, such as routine vaccinations for children and adults, guidance on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), arboviruses (dengue, chikungunya, zika) and oral health. The health team made home visits, vaccinating bedridden people and those with mobility difficulties and actively sought out people to update their vaccination records. In addition, male and female condoms were distributed. Pregnant women received paintings on their bellies reproducing images of babies, further strengthening the bonds between mothers and children.

The Housing, Social Welfare and Citizenship departments, responsible for Procon Carioca, were also present at the event. With them, participants registered for the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, received social services and information about social welfare programs, were referred to obtain free copies of documents and certificates, and were able to file complaints against companies, clarify doubts and request debt negotiation.

The Community Action Department held a discussion on sustainability and attracted attendees with an exhibition on guided tours organized by the Turistando com a Comunidade project. The department also organized group activities on tourist attractions in Rio and showed the public how the Recicla Comunidade project works, which has a recycling collection point on site to encourage income generation. Educational material on recycling and sustainable practices was also distributed.

The Education Department team provided guidance on enrollment in daycare centers, Elementary School I and II, and PEJA – Youth and Adult Education Project. The Youth Department held Drone and DJ workshops and spoke about the courses available for people between 15 and 29 years old, and the Women's Department publicized the services offered by the department.

The Department of Transportation provided information on the Jaé card, free public transportation, and parking cards for senior citizens and people with disabilities. The Civil Defense issued bulletins for property inspections in potential risk situations and provided information on first aid and firefighting courses offered by the agency. CET-Rio provided educational games on traffic regulations and distributed printed information.

The Department for Persons with Disabilities spoke to attendees about the rights of persons with disabilities and publicized the services offered by the agency. The Department of Culture gave tips on nearby cultural facilities, such as libraries, arenas, and museums. The Parks and Gardens Foundation distributed plant seedlings and talked about how to keep them healthy and beautiful. IplanRio provided IT support to the participating agencies, and the Department of Conservation, Comlurb, and Rioluz worked on sidewalk repairs, tree pruning, cleaning, weeding, and replacing light bulbs.

In addition to the services provided, one of the highlights of Favela com Dignidade in Camorim was the provision of services to mark Black November. The Community Action Department hung a clothesline with images of personalities who faced racism and hosted a discussion group on the topic. To highlight the heritage of African culture and history, the department invited men to get ghetto-style haircuts and women to get nagô braids. The Health Department gave women afro braids and turbans.

The Favela com Dignidade program aims to guarantee and facilitate access to public services for the population living in areas with low Social Development Indexes, providing better conditions for residents of these locations. Implemented in 2021, the program has already promoted 31 joint community actions, with approximately 47,5 services provided.
