Next Monday (November 24th), the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Special Secretariat for Community Action (SEAC), will host one of the most important meetings of the year for those who follow issues of social urbanism, popular participation and public policies: the Seminar “Rio's Favelas… A New Perspective”.

The event is held in commemoration of Favela Day (celebrated on November 4th) — a date that recognizes the cultural, economic, and social power of these territories — and will bring together community leaders, researchers, activists, public managers, and representatives of projects that are currently changing the lives of thousands of families in Rio de Janeiro's favelas.

The Secretary of Community Action, Gustavo Freue, emphasizes that the seminar reinforces the City Hall's commitment to a management style that listens to and builds solutions together with the residents.

– The favelas have a voice, a history, and leadership. Our role is to strengthen these networks and ensure that each territory is heard, respected, and included in public policies. This seminar is a space for recognition and, above all, for collective construction.

Important agenda

The seminar will discuss the strategic role of community leaders in building citizenship, mediating with public authorities, and implementing real solutions in the territory. At a time when the debate on inclusion, urban policies, and guarantees of rights is gaining relevance, the event sheds light on initiatives that are already underway and showing concrete results.

Among the topics covered:

* Guarantee of the right to decent housing
Opportunities, dignity, and income generation in the favelas.
Sustainability and social impact initiatives
Empowering residents and strengthening leadership
* Innovative projects such as Casa Carioca, Favela com Dignidade, Turistando and Recicla

The program will also feature a cultural presentation by the Lins Imperial Children's School, symbolizing the strength of youth and the roots of the favelas in the city's identity.
