Families in Santa Cruz receive first month of social rent - Fernando Maia / Rio City Hall Six days after the fire that destroyed the “Unidos Venceremos” occupation in Santa Cruz, in the West Zone, the City of Rio paid, this Wednesday (20/01), the first month of social rent in aid of the displaced. The vice-mayor and Housing Secretary, Nilton Caldeira, and the Social Welfare Secretary, Laura Carneiro, delivered the first four checks, in the amount of R$400,00 each, to Thamires dos Santos Dias, Pamela Regina de Sousa, Gisele de Oliveira Sebastião and Paulo Ferreira da Silva. The remaining checks were offered by the teams of the Housing and Social Welfare departments.
– Today is a special day for São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro. So, we rushed to deliver the checks as quickly as possible. It was necessary to issue a specific decree for the payment of the benefit in this case, which is a fire, not provided for in the previous decree – said Laura Carneiro.
To continue with the payment, families must go to the West Zone Subprefecture to submit the documentation required by the Housing Department. Beneficiaries have 30 days to schedule an appointment at the Santa Cruz branch of the subprefecture, Rua Fernanda, 155.
The fire occurred on Thursday night (14), and the displaced people were sheltered at the Miécimo da Silva Sports Center. The Social Welfare Department registered the people on Friday and sent the documentation to the Housing Department on Monday to arrange payments.
Detran is also working, in partnership with Social Welfare, to issue documents that were lost in the fire. The board of the 10th Social Welfare Coordination continues to monitor the displaced people.
The donations needed at the moment are: food, baby bottles, water, milk, diapers, sanitary pads and other hygiene items. Clothing has already arrived in large quantities. Donations can be sent to CRAS Jorge Gonçalves, Rua Primeira, 61, in Santa Cruz; and to the Rio Acolhedor reintegration unit, Rua Hermínio Aurélio Sampaio, 105, next to Senat, in Paciência.
