The Rio de Janeiro City Hall has intensified its campaign to register those interested in supporting the Foster Family Service. This initiative, in coordination with the Judiciary, which is responsible for determining the protective judicial measure of fostering, seeks to increase the availability of temporary homes for children and adolescents who are victims of rights violations (violence, abuse, or neglect) and who have been removed from their families of origin by court order.

Registration is easy. The applicant family registers on the website of the Municipal Department of Social Assistance, at the following link: https://linktr.ee/FACOrjThere is an option to register in person at one of the Social Assistance Coordination Offices (CAS) in the city.

Couples, singles, and other family profiles can participate. Applicants must pass a psychosocial evaluation and meet the criteria of residing in the municipality, being between 21 and 68 years old, and having available time and affection. The municipality provides a monthly stipend of R$ 1.400 per person being cared for. This amount increases to R$ 2.030 if the person has a disability or specific needs.

Family foster care is temporary, until adoption by another family, return to the family of origin, or transition to adulthood. In Rio, 19% of children and adolescents in foster care are in foster families. The campaign aims to attract more city residents willing to give these young people a home.
