Integrated action by the South Zone Subprefecture involved the participation of several municipal agencies - Jonas Monteiro/South Zone Subprefecture The South Zone Subprefecture carried out an integrated operation in Copacabana and Botafogo between Wednesday night (June 3rd) and Thursday morning (June 4th) to regulate the use of public roads and inspect businesses. The action brought together teams from the Local Executive Managements (GEL), the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), the Municipal Guard, Comlurb, the Secretariat of Social Assistance, the Licensing and Inspection Coordination, IVISA-Rio, and the support of the 19th BPM, resulting in the application of R$ 21,000 in fines and the removal of half a ton of irregular materials.
In Botafogo, the inspection focused on the irregular occupation of sidewalks by bars and restaurants. City agents inspected 18 establishments on Arnaldo Quintela, Gal. Polidoro, Fernandes Guimarães, Rodrigo de Brito and Oliveira Fausto streets, issuing citations to the establishments for the improper encroachment of tables and chairs onto the public sidewalk.
In Copacabana, the operation focused on urban cleaning and traffic management. 500 kg of debris and various materials accumulated in public areas were collected, including 15 chairs, 11 batteries, 56 media items, three gas cylinders, a cart, and a knife. Traffic enforcement resulted in 20 fines for illegal parking and the removal of two vehicles, including an abandoned car chained to a lamppost on Rua Dias da Rocha.
The sub-mayor of the South Zone, Pedro Angelito, highlighted that the integration of the teams is the determining factor for the effectiveness of the operation.
"The actions taken to regulate and organize the streets go far beyond physical organization. When we combat irregularities and reinforce the presence of public authorities on the streets, we directly contribute to increasing the population's sense of security," stated the deputy mayor.
Teams from the Municipal Department of Social Assistance conducted 15 outreach visits to people in vulnerable situations, resulting in one person being taken in.
