- City Hall will invest R$10,3 million in defending the rights of children and adolescents
Mayor Eduardo Paes and Secretary Laura Carneiro pose with the young people from Conjunto Camerata da Vila - Fabio Motta/City Hall of Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes and the municipal secretary of Social Welfare, Laura Carneiro, launched this Wednesday (22/12), in a ceremony at the City Palace, in Botafogo, the call for proposals for the Municipal Fund for the Support of the Rights of Children and Adolescents (FMADCA). In total, R$10,3 million will be allocated for the execution of projects to promote, protect and defend this public in 2022.
– It’s great that we have this innovative initiative, it’s great that we have a democratic, open funding call that allows everyone to participate. So that, in the end, we can serve our target audience: children and teenagers – said the mayor of Rio.
The projects were divided into five lines of action, each awarded R$2.057.660,30: combating violence against children and adolescents; institutional support; preparation and initiation into the world of work; support for social assistance, education and health actions; and actions to combat child labor.
420 projects will be selected, with maximum values of up to R$300, distributed as follows: 100 proposals to combat sexual abuse and exploitation; 20 for institutional support; 100 for preparation and initiation into the world of work; 100 to support social assistance, education and health actions, with care for children and adolescents with disabilities, pregnant adolescents and those in situations of risk and social vulnerability; and 100 to combat child labor and protect adolescents in learning conditions.
– The negative impacts experienced by our society as a result of the pandemic affect children and adolescents in an even more cruel way, with the difficulty of accessing and remaining in schools, for example. Therefore, it is very urgent that we qualify our actions and direct our public policies to reduce the social vulnerability of this group – said Secretary Laura Carneiro.
Civil society organizations with at least three years of proven experience in the proposed areas of activity, distributed among the ten Social Assistance Coordinating Offices (CAS) and that do not have 12 or more contracts in force with the City Hall, will be eligible to participate in the call for proposals. Each organization may submit up to three proposals in different lines of action. The projects will be supervised by the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMDCA-Rio), which manages the Fund.
– Being here is very important. In January, we began to reflect and rethink the protection of children and adolescents. Social control only moves forward when the administration understands its importance. So I thank Mayor Eduardo Paes and Secretary Laura Carneiro for believing that only together can we move forward and build – said the president of CMDCA-Rio, Erica Arruda.
During the ceremony at the City Palace, Mayor Eduardo Paes attended two performances: the first was the ballet of the Lucinha Araújo Social Reintegration Unit. Then, the Conjunto Camerata da Vila, from the Social Action through Music project, formed by young people from Morro dos Macacos, in Vila Isabel.
