The Rio City Hall, through the Municipal Undersecretariat for Animal Welfare and the Municipal Secretariat for Social Assistance and Human Rights, and in partnership with the NGO Eu Sou Testemunha de Golias, brought joy to the elderly at a shelter in the West Zone, with animals rescued from risky situations. In the action called “Love Day”, this Thursday (22/10), 25 elderly people who live at the Maria Vieira Bazani Social Reintegration Unit, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, received and gave affection, in contact with the goat Jurema and the horses Toni and Gabriel, from the NGO; and the dogs Elvira, Churros, Xuxa and Lua, from Fazenda Modelo.

Animal therapy usually yields good results. And the ones at Fazenda Modelo, maintained by the City Hall to save abandoned or endangered animals, made the day of the residents of the shelter maintained by the City Hall in Recreio happier.

The Secretary of Social Action and Human Rights, Tia Ju, classified the action as fantastic:

– The animals made our seniors smile a lot more, and they also brought back wonderful memories of experiences with pets they had in the past. It was a beautiful portrayal of the interaction between man and animal. I want to leave a message for all of you: adopt a pet responsibly.

The dogs at Fazenda Modelo are available for adoption.

– Elvira, Churros, Xuxa and Lua are wonderful, affectionate dogs. They have been at the Fazenda Modelo Animal Protection Center for a long time, some for more than four years. They are all available for adoption, they deserve a home with lots of love – said veterinarian Márcia Sá, chief of staff of the Undersecretary of Animal Welfare.

Animal-assisted therapy has been carried out at the Maria Vieira Bazani Social Reintegration Unit for about two years. The NGO Eu Sou Testemunha de Golias carries out this work in rehabilitation clinics for children and the elderly, and has decided to extend it to public shelters.

– For us, working with equine therapy (using horses) is very rewarding. We rescue animals from situations of abuse and select some to be trained and prepared to provide well-being to people with special needs, such as the elderly in this shelter. For us, this is priceless, it involves a lot of love – said Greicy Taranto, president of the NGO.

How to adopt animals from the Model Farm

To adopt, interested parties simply need to send a message to WhatsApp (21) 99399-3968. A team from the sub-secretariat will interview the person and, if approved, will receive the adopted animal at home.
