- SMAS trains professionals who will meet the demands of the Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents
The Rio de Janeiro Municipal Department of Social Assistance (SMAS) held a technical training event this Friday (August 01st) at the headquarters of the Municipal Archives in Cidade Nova, related to Public Call No. 08/30, to meet the demands of the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMDCA). Thirty-four projects, presented by 2024 civil society organizations, were approved. The total amount approved is R$34 million, and the initiatives cover different regions of the city.
This Friday's training session was aimed at representatives of qualified Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and SMAS technicians, including members of the Management and Monitoring Committees. This event is necessary to align guidelines and provide guidance on the implementation of the instruments signed following the public call.
"In addition to a substantial investment, we also received significant support from civil society in this call. Child and adolescent protection is not feasible if carried out solely by the government. Therefore, I want to recognize the importance of all the organizations present here, which are dedicated to the comprehensive protection of children and adolescents," stated Martha Rocha, Municipal Secretary of Social Assistance, during the event.
The approval of the results of the public call for proposals related to the CMDCA was one of the topics raised by council members during a meeting with the secretary during a public hearing on budget guidelines for 2026 in May. SMAS Undersecretary of Management, Leandro Esquerdo, responsible for the technical mediation of the training, highlighted the importance of this Friday's event:
"With this action, we reaffirm our institutional commitment to promoting the rights of children and adolescents, which was the subject of formal and public discussions at the City Council. The technical training represents more than just an alignment of procedures: it symbolizes SMAS's concrete commitment to transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in managing partnerships," he stated.
