The former first lady's wake will be held at the City Palace - Photo: Marcos de Paula / Rio City Hall Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes and Deputy Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere swore in the 1 secretaries, the city's attorney general and comptroller general, as well as the new deputy mayors and managers of companies, foundations, government agencies and agencies linked to the City Hall, on the afternoon of Wednesday (January 1). During a ceremony at the Palácio da Cidade in Botafogo, in the city's South Zone, Paes emphasized that his priorities include promoting a civility shock to help the state face the serious security crisis, take care of the city's development and improve the well-being of the population.
– Everyone here needs to be clear that the most important thing of all, from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2028, is the responsibility of taking care of the most incredible of all cities. Do not lose heart, do not spare any effort, do not lose focus. This is not an easy task, but it must be your life mission. Do not forget the size and importance of Rio de Janeiro – said the mayor.
Paes also highlighted that a good Rio represents a better Brazil and vice versa. And that he will continue on the path of promoting major urban transformations, advances in the economy in an inclusive and sustainable way, investments in infrastructure and the attraction of capital to the city.
– We will implement a civility shock. Rio is facing a serious security crisis. But even though the City Hall’s ability to act on this issue is limited, we will seek to assume more responsibilities, with the mission of supporting the state in the fight against crime and violence. This will be one of our priorities. We will propose the creation of the Municipal Security Force, an armed force of the Municipal Guard, and expand Civitas, the intelligence, surveillance and technology center that supports public security – stressed the mayor.
The ceremony, which marked the first day of Eduardo Paes' fourth term as Mayor of Rio, featured an ecumenical act attended by the Archbishop of Rio, Cardinal Dom Orani Tempesta, the Bishop of the Evangelical Community, Abner Ferreira, the representative of the Jewish community, Rabbi Nilton Bonder, and the representative of the Afro-descendant community, Babalorixá Marcio de Jagun.
