City Hall announces operational plan to support the 30th LGBTI+ Pride Parade.

The City Hall of Rio, through the Coordination of Sexual Diversity (CDS), announces the operational support plan for the 30th LGBTI+ Pride Parade in Copacabana, which will be held this Sunday (November 23rd), with the gathering starting at 11 am, at Post 5.

For the event, the City Hall mobilized a special support action for the 30th Pride Parade. Teams from the Sexual Diversity Coordination (CDS-Rio), the Municipal Secretariats of Public Order, Health, CET-Rio, Comlurb and the Municipal Guard will be on site from 6 am, providing support to the event, which will also be monitored by the Rio Operations Center (COR-Rio).

This year, the Parade will feature an integrated operation of public services along the waterfront, including: PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) prescriptions, vaccinations, distribution of condoms and information on prevention, citizenship services such as guidance on name rectification and social rights, environmental education activities, instructions on accessing social assistance services, and humanized care teams at points of attention.

– The proposal is to transform the celebration into a space of care, support, health, and real access to rights, strengthening the intersection between celebration, public policy, and social protection. Rio de Janeiro is the city of the first LGBTI+ Pride Parade in the country. This says a lot about who we are. The Parade has two equally important sides: the fight for social rights, but it is also a major tourist event that energizes the city, generates income, and shows the world our commitment to diversity – stated the coordinator of the CDS, Diana Conrado.

The Copacabana LGBTI+ Pride Parade remains one of the largest and most traditional events in the country, bringing together hundreds of thousands of people and reaffirming Rio's role as the capital of diversity.

The Municipal Department of Transportation announces route detours for bus lines.

The Municipal Department of Transportation (SMTR) informs that, due to the closure of Avenida Atlântica for the leisure area and the holding of the Parade, there will be detours in the routes of bus lines that circulate in the region next Sunday, throughout the entire period of the road closure. The detours follow the same pattern that occurs every Sunday.

Route deviations:

Bus lines that travel along Avenida Atlântica, in the direction of Ipanema, will be diverted via Rua Barata Ribeiro.
Bus lines that travel along Avenida Atlântica, in the direction of Botafogo, will be diverted via Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana.

 

CET-Rio sets up special traffic operation.

CET-Rio has set up a special traffic operation for the 30th LGBTI+ Pride Parade in Rio. Road closures will begin at 9 pm on Saturday (November 22nd) on Avenida Atlântica, the lane next to the beach, between Rua Francisco Otaviano and Rua Constante Ramos, for the positioning of the sound trucks.

Starting at 7 am on Sunday (November 23rd), the leisure area on Avenida Atlântica, the lane next to the beach, will be implemented, as is normal on Sundays and holidays. The lane next to the buildings on Avenida Atlântica, from Rua Joaquim Nabuco to Avenida Princesa Isabel, as well as its access roads, may also be closed from 3 pm onwards, depending on the flow of arriving public. The leisure area on Avenida Atlântica, as well as the closure of the lane next to the buildings, will be maintained until the end of the event, the public has vacated the road and the lanes have been cleaned, with the reopening to vehicle traffic expected by 11 pm.

At the request of the security forces, Rua Figueiredo de Magalhães, between Avenida Atlântica and Rua Joseph Bloch, will be closed from 5 am on Sunday to 2 am on Monday (November 24th). Due to this closure, access to Botafogo and Humaitá that would be via the Alaor Prata Tunnel should be made via Avenida Henrique Dodsworth (Corte do Cantagalo) and Avenida Epitácio Pessoa (Lagoa).

The change of direction on Avenida Atlântica, the lane of buildings, will operate at its usual times, from 7 am to 18 pm.

 The operation will involve traffic agents, municipal guards, CET-Rio operators, and traffic support personnel, who will work to maintain traffic flow, manage intersections, guide pedestrians and drivers, and implement road closures. Traffic conditions will be monitored for any potential impacts, and traffic light timings will be adjusted to improve flow on alternative routes and main traffic corridors in the area. Variable message signs will provide information about the closure of Avenida Atlântica and traffic conditions on surrounding roads.

Recommendations

– Use public transportation to arrive at and leave the event.
– Due to the closures for the event, it is recommended that drivers seek alternative routes for their journeys and, if possible, avoid passing through the region, as traffic is expected to be impacted.

 

Public Order and Municipal Guard will act in the inspection and urban order.

The Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) and the Municipal Guard will deploy approximately 500 agents focusing on urban order enforcement, preventive patrolling, and traffic control along the Copacabana beachfront. The operation will also aim to curb illegal parking and improve traffic flow during arrivals and departures from the event.

Approximately 350 municipal guards will be deployed solely at the roadblocks. The Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) will maintain the actions already carried out as part of Operation Summer and will inspect authorized stallholders and street vendors, as well as combat illegal street vendors along the Copacabana beachfront.

It's important to remember that authorized street vendors are not allowed to sell distilled beverages on the beach; they can only sell cans of beer and soda or plastic bottles of water. Therefore, anyone buying drinks, caipirinhas, and caipivodkas from street vendors on the beach is consuming a beverage from a vendor not authorized by the City Hall.

The operations will be aided by drones, and COR-Rio has installed 21 long-range cameras that are monitoring the flow of people and supporting the work of security forces during the event. Due to the increased number of people in Copacabana on Sunday, the Municipal Guard will intensify the distribution of identification bracelets for minors. The goal is to make it easier for any lost children to find their guardians.

 

The Municipal Health Department will be there with the traditional VanBora.

The Rio Municipal Health Department (SMS) will be present at the 30th LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade with the traditional VanBora, the mobile service offering services such as PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) prescription, and a support tent promoting health. There will also be vaccination with dT (adult double), yellow fever, covid-19, influenza, MMR, HPV and hepatitis B, with the presence of Zé Gotinha, mascot of the Unified Health System (SUS). Both actions will take place from 9 am to 14 pm. Both the tent and the van will be located on Avenida Atlântica, in Copacabana, on the median strip between Djalma Urich and Almirante Gonçalves streets (near Bob's Burger). All kiosks on the Rio coastline will be stocked with condoms this Friday (21). In addition, on the day of the event, 20 health promoters will distribute internal and external condoms, lubricant gel, and temporary tattoos to participants.

 

Comlurb prepares special cleaning scheme

Comlurb has prepared a special cleaning plan for the event this Sunday. Preparation work will begin at 7 am with pre-cleaning. The company will deploy 290 sanitation workers, working before, during, and after the event, providing services on the sand, boardwalk, bike path, median strip, and parade route. The work consists of cleaning and maintaining the Avenida Atlântica and cross streets, including access to the Cantagalo, Siqueira Campos, and Cardeal Arcoverde metro stations, with sweeping, collection and removal of waste, and emptying of trash cans and containers placed specifically for the event, from the gathering point at Post 6 to Avenida Princesa Isabel.

The sanitation workers will be supported by six water tankers and six motorized pump vans for washing the streets with reused water; two satellite trucks, two compactors, and one dump truck for waste removal; one box truck for transporting personnel; four large sweepers; five beach tractors, two with rear implements to stir and sanitize the sand, and two portable beach cleaning machines. The vehicles and equipment will be used throughout the Parade route, including adjacent streets, before, during, and after the event. 700 containers will be available for the proper disposal of waste, including 100 high-capacity containers (1.200 liters) and 600 containers (240 liters).
