The City of Rio de Janeiro is sponsoring the 2025 edition of the Rainbow Six Reload championship, whose finals will be held this Friday, May 16th and will run until Sunday, May 05th, at Arena Carioca 18, in the West Zone. The championship is expected to attract 05 spectators and generate approximately US$1 million in economic activity for the city. All final matches, which will bring together the 30 best teams in the world in a unique competition with an unprecedented format, will be open to the public.

Since the creation of the Games and E-sports Coordination, an agency linked to the Civil House, the City of Rio has already held three other major international events in the city, such as the IEM Intel Extreme Masters Rio CS2, 2023 and 2024 editions, and the Free Fire World Series, also in 2024. Now, with Rainbow Six Reload, the city is consolidating itself as the main destination in the world for electronic sports.

– Today, we are the city that hosts and attracts the most international sporting events. We are even ahead of Saudi Arabia, which produces its own events. In total, there are 60 international teams in Rio, which have booked three hotels in the West Zone, which generates significant economic returns for the city. Holding Rainbow Six Reload here at Arena Carioca 1 consolidates our performance and shows that Rio is already an important tourist destination for electronic sports – said Chandy Teixeira, Games and E-sports coordinator.

The result of the investment made by the Municipality with the arrival of tourists and the movement surrounding the championships generates jobs, boosts the development of services and strengthens the city's image on the international stage.

According to data from Newzoo's Global Games Market Report 2024, the global electronic games market is expected to grow in 2025 and in Latin America alone it generates revenue of US$9,1 billion.

According to PGB 2024 (Pesquisa Game Brasil), 73,9% of the population claims to play some type of digital game — regardless of frequency or platform. The number shows a growth of 3,8% compared to 2023. In addition, 85,4% say that electronic games are “one of their main forms of entertainment”.

In 2024, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall opened the Arena Gamer da Nave do Conhecimento do Engenhão, in the North Zone, the first public gaming arena in the country, which has already hosted 44 external events, including national and regional championships, game launches, events, and film screenings and tournaments. In its first year, more than 8,1 people visited the Arena and around 354 groups visited the venue, which is dedicated to electronic sports. The venue is an initiative of the Municipal Department of Science and Technology, in partnership with the Games and e-Sports Coordination.

About Rainbow Six Reload

The tournament is produced by Blast, the second largest production company in the world, and will feature the debuts of LOUD and Cloud9. The championship also has the participation of references from the world of e-sports CAG Osaka, DarkZero, Elevate, FaZe Clan, FearX, Fnatic, FURIA, G2, M80, PSG Talon, SCARZ, Spacestation, Team BDS, Team Falcons, Team Liquid, Team Secret, W7M and Wildcard.

The total prize pool for this edition is 480 thousand euros (around R$ 2,8 million) and adds card game mechanics, challenges, rewards and eliminations to the duels between the 20 participating teams. This is the first time that the championship is played in Siege X, the recently released update for Rainbow Six Siege.

The main new feature of the 2025 edition is the Reload system, which gives the competition its name. Each team starts the championship with six “bullets”, equivalent to points. The more “bullets” a team has, the higher it will be in the ranking. Any organization that loses all its bullets will be disqualified.

The games will be streamed on Ubisoft’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. Tickets are available for free on the Eventim platform.
