Rio de Janeiro City Hall receives technical visit from FIFA and Federal Government delegations.

Maracanã will host matches of the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup™ - Marcos de Paula/Rio City Hall On Thursday (May 7th), the Rio de Janeiro City Hall hosted delegations from FIFA and the Extraordinary Secretariat for the 2027 Women's World Cup of the Federal Government (SECOPA) in the COMPSTAT room at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR). The meeting is part of the agenda of technical visits and institutional meetings between the Federal Government and FIFA in preparation for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup™. Rio de Janeiro was chosen as one of the host cities for next year's World Cup. This choice confirms, once again, the city's vocation for hosting major sporting events. The competition, which will take place for the first time in Latin America, will be held between June 24th and July 25th, 2027. In Rio de Janeiro, the matches will be played at the Maracanã Stadium.
– The objective of this meeting is to show how the city is organizing itself for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup™. Rio de Janeiro is prepared. We are already a benchmark for major international events, with integrated public transport and experience in operations that mobilize thousands of people, such as the finals of the Confederations Cup and the World Cup in 2013 and 2014, and the Olympics in 2016. Every event in the city is a challenge. And each successful event only increases the responsibility for the next ones. In fact, we have the opportunity to build a legacy for our women's football – said the municipal secretary of the Civil House, Leandro Matieli.
At the meeting, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall presented the governance structure of its Local Committee, which will define strategies and planning for hosting the games in the city. In addition to SECOPA (the state agency responsible for the World Cup), other representatives from the Federal Government also participated in the meeting, such as the Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health, the National Secretariat of Public Security (SENASP), the Federal Police and the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN), as well as representatives from the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
– May Rio de Janeiro host the best World Cup ever. The Women's World Cup is the first in Brazil, in South America, and in Latin America. And we have a need for historical reparation, for historical recognition of women's football and of these women who, over so many years, have worked for women's football. It is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world with significant economic potential as well. May Rio be the stage for this great celebration, understanding the need for the professionalization of women's football – said Juliana Picoli Agatte, Extraordinary Secretary for the World Cup (SECOPA).
