The Rio City Hall is supporting the 20th edition of the LGBTI+ Parade in Madureira, in the North Zone, and will bring together several agencies and departments on Estrada do Portela, between Avenida Ministro Edgar Romero and Rua Américo Brasiliense, during the event this Sunday (26/11). The gathering will start at 9 am, in front of the Império Serrano samba school, and the parade starts at 14 pm, with music by DJs Natinho Negrada, Nanda Machado and Renan. From 18 pm to 20 pm, shows with Grupo SER, Império Serrano and Portela will be held on the main stage of Parque Madureira. The event is organized by the MGTT group, and this year it has the artistic direction of carnival artist Milton Cunha, also vice-president of the group. In addition to the Municipal Health Department (SMS) and the Sexual Diversity Coordination (CDS-Rio), teams from CET-Rio, Comlurb and the Municipal Guard will be there from 6 am providing support for the event.
Starting at 9 am, CDS-Rio technicians will be on site to provide information on legislation that protects the rights of the LGBTI+ community and on the services provided by the City Hall. The Sexual Diversity Coordination Office will be available to assist the public and receive complaints. Various types of services will also be provided, such as registration for programs developed by CDS-Rio, such as the Talent Bank, and distribution of pamphlets on PrEP, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, and PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis).
– The return of the traditional Madureira Parade is important for the LGBTI+ movement in Rio de Janeiro. This year, the event pays tribute to Loren Rainha do Buá, the creator of the Parade, who died in 2021 from COVID-XNUMX, and has the artistic direction of Milton Cunha. Historically, Pride Parades have always marked the fight for civil rights and we, as the City of Rio, took advantage of the occasion to bring municipal services to Madureira Park for the population that will be at the event. We will be there from early on – said Carlos Tufvesson, coordinator of Sexual Diversity, a department linked to the Civil House.
The Garupa team, a project that provides support to the trans population, and Rap da Saúde, the Network of Adolescents and Young Health Promoters of the SMS, will also be present at the event, providing guidance, distributing internal and external condoms, and answering questions from the public. Van Bora, a mobile health service from the City of Rio, will provide rapid tests for syphilis and hepatitis B and C, with pre- and post-test counseling, and Van Vacina Rio will offer hepatitis B, double adult (dT), influenza, and COVID-19 vaccines.
Comlurb has set up a special cleaning operation along the entire route and access roads. A team of 120 street cleaners and 15 urban cleaning agents will ensure cleaning before, during and after the event. The work will begin around 6 am on Sunday and continue until 6 am on Monday (27/11), with the area being cleaned routinely. The work will be carried out with the support of two large sweepers and one mini sweeper, 18 blowers, three compactor trucks and three dump trucks, a community tractor, as well as three water trucks and a motor pump, which will wash the roads with recycled water.
Madureira streets will be closed on Sunday
The Rio Municipal Guard has set up a special operation with 94 guards – 11 of whom are traffic officers – in support of the LGBTI+ Parade. Preventive actions and urban and traffic management actions will begin at 7 am, on the streets where the event will be held and also on the main access roads. To minimize possible impacts on traffic in the region, the traffic operation will include CET-Rio controllers and municipal guards, with vehicles and motorcycles, who will work to maintain fluidity, prevent illegal parking, organize intersections and guide pedestrians.
CET-Rio technicians located at the Rio Operations Center (COR) will monitor the event through cameras and, if necessary, traffic light adjustments will be implemented. The operational scheme will be maintained until the end of the event. No parking areas will be created for the event. The recommendation is to use regulated public transportation, such as buses, BRTs and trains.

Vehicles coming from Carvalho de Souza Street and heading to Estrada do Portela will follow Francisco Batista Street, Carolina Machado Street (two-way traffic), Américo Brasiliense Street and Estrada do Portela. Carolina Machado Street will have two-way traffic implemented between Francisco Batista Street and Firmino Fragoso Street.
