Saraus Cariocas: funk and jongo close the 2023 season at the General City Archive

Funk carioca and jongo are the themes of the next two meetings that will close the 2023 season of Saraus Cariocas. The series, organized by the General Archive of the City, tells the story of musical genres from Rio de Janeiro in free events. On Thursday (7/12), MC Leonardo will be the guest for the soiree about funk carioca. He is the author of hits in the genre, such as “Rap das armas”, “Rap do valão” and “Endereço dos bailes”. On December 14, Jongo da Serrinha will be the theme of the meeting, which will feature singers Lazir Sinval and Deli Monteiro (descendants of the founders and masters of the musical group).

Held in the auditorium of the General City Archives (Rua Amoroso Lima, 15 – Cidade Nova), the soirees begin promptly at 12:30 pm and last approximately 60 minutes. Admission is free, subject to capacity.

Saraus Cariocas is a series created by the General Archive of the City to shed light on Brazilian musical genres that emerged in Rio de Janeiro. The initiative began in 2022, with the genres samba de terreiro, samba-enredo, marchinhas, choro and bossa nova (with Roberto Menescal and Cris Delanno). In 2023, editions were held with samba-canção and samba de gafieira.

The meetings with MC Leonardo and Jongo da Serrinha will be recorded on video for release on the YouTube channel of the General Archive of the City of Rio de Janeiro.
