Taxi.Rio launches new version of app with possibility of exchanging messages between passengers and drivers

The Taxi.Rio Cidades app, developed by IplanRio, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall's municipal IT company, has released an update that allows passengers and drivers to exchange messages and keep a history of their conversations. The new version is in response to a request from the industry. The update has been successfully used by drivers and passengers since December 31.
In addition, the app has a new design and interface that makes it easier to access key functions, such as estimated arrival time, ride cost and driver ratings. With the new version, the app is faster and more user-friendly. The app offers an updated and more intuitive version for rides requested with payment by credit card, an implementation launched in September of last year.
In 2024 alone, the “little yellow car” of Rio de Janeiro carried out eight million trips, generating R$187 million for taxi drivers, 13% more than in 2023. In terms of the number of trips, there was an increase of 7,5% more than in 2023.
The new app is now available for Android users on the Google Play store and will be available for iPhone in the first half of January. Regular users of the app should have the version updated automatically.
