  • The 38th Marine Corps Race will have traffic operations in Aterro and Botafogo.

CET-Rio will implement a special traffic operation this Sunday (May 24th) for the 38th Marine Corps Race. To facilitate the sporting event, partial traffic closures will be implemented on Avenida Infante Dom Henrique (Aterro do Flamengo) and Avenida das Nações Unidas, in Enseada de Botafogo.

At Flamengo Park, the road will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 3:00 AM and continuing until 6:00 PM, when the recreational area closes. At Avenida das Nações Unidas, in Botafogo Cove, the closure will be from 3:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

The race is scheduled to start at 6:00 AM at Aterro do Flamengo, in front of the National Monument to the Dead of the Second World War. The route will follow the road towards the South Zone until it reaches Botafogo Cove.

Pedestrians should cross the street at safe and properly marked locations. It is also essential to follow the instructions of traffic officers and respect the signage in the area. Whenever possible, it is recommended to use public transportation to reach the event location and to move around the area.

Agents from CET-Rio (Rio de Janeiro's traffic management company) and the Municipal Guard will be responsible for directing traffic and maintaining traffic flow throughout the operation. Technicians at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) will monitor traffic conditions in real time and, if necessary, adjustments to traffic light timings will be made to minimize the impact on travel in the area.
