Blocks shake up the streets of Rio on the last weekend of Carnival 2025

The last weekend of Rio's 2025 Street Carnival promises to keep the city buzzing: approximately 36 blocks will take to the streets, starting on Friday (07/03). Still within the official period of festivities, the groups will be led by Bloco da Anitta, on Saturday (08/03), and Monobloco, on Sunday (09/03), which will parade on the Rua Primeira de Março circuit, in the city center. It is estimated that more than a million people will still be attracted to the festivities, before saying goodbye to King Momo and officially closing this year's Carnival.

On Saturday (08/03), starting at 7 am, Bloco da Anitta will be rocking the mega-block circuit, with the singer's greatest hits and Brazilian music hits. The block has been parading since 2016, initially as Bloco das Poderosas, and this year the singer held rehearsals in recent months in several states of the country.

On Sunday (09/03), Monobloco will take over the party in the region, also at 7 am, once again closing the parades on Rua Primeiro de Março, with a big party for one of the symbols of Rio's carnival. The group is known for incorporating different rhythms and musical styles to the beat of samba. The eclectic repertoire includes the traditional marchinhas by João Roberto Kelly; the samba by Cartola and Clara Nunes; the xote by Alceu Valença; the forró by Luiz Gonzaga; the funk by Ludmilla; the pop by Anitta; and even hits by Paralamas do Sucesso, Raul Seixas and Tim Maia.

In addition to these two, other blocks beloved by Rio residents will be on the streets, such as Urubu Malandro, which parades on Friday at 17 pm in Saúde; Quizomba, which traditionally livens up the streets of Lapa, on Saturday, gathering at 9 am; and Bloco Cultural 7 de Paus, which holds its parade on Boulevard 28 de Setembro, in Vila Isabel, the birthplace of samba, at 16 pm.

Operational Plan for Street Carnival 2025

Expected to attract around six million people over 37 days of festivities, Carnaval de Rua 2025 will have, until March 9, more than 470 performances spread across different regions of Rio.

To ensure that the public enjoys the party safely and comfortably, the City Hall, through Riotur, has prepared a large operational scheme involving CET-Rio, the Municipal Health Department (SMS), Comlurb, the Public Order Department (Seop) and the Rio Municipal Guard (GM-Rio), among other bodies, which will operate at the event locations and in the surrounding areas.

The complete schedule of the processions, with date, time and route, is available on the Blocos do Rio 2025 app, on all digital platforms. The tool is free and works by geolocation.
