Road closures and changes will take place between Thursday and Sunday.
The Rio 2026 Marathon will have a special traffic operation to ensure the safety of technical teams and athletes. The event includes 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K races, which will pass through important roads in the city center, South Zone, and Southwest Zone.

The program will begin on Thursday (June 4th) with the 5K race, starting at 5 PM and finishing at Aterro do Flamengo, near Marina da Glória. On Friday (June 5th), the 10K race will take place, starting at 7 AM and finishing at the same location. On Saturday (June 6th), athletes will compete in the Half Marathon (21K), starting at 5:30 AM on Avenida Delfim Moreira, in Leblon, and finishing at Aterro do Flamengo, near the Monument to the Brazilian Expeditionary Force. Concluding the program, on Sunday (June 7th), the Marathon (42K) will take place, starting at 5:30 AM at Praia da Reserva, in Barra da Tijuca, and also finishing at Aterro do Flamengo, near the Monument to the Brazilian Expeditionary Force.

To make the races possible, traffic restrictions, operational roadblocks, and parking bans will be necessary on various city streets, according to each race's schedule. Parking restrictions will be implemented in the start and finish areas, as well as sections along the routes, as indicated by signage previously installed at the locations.

The operation will involve agents from CET-Rio (Rio de Janeiro's traffic management company), the Municipal Guard, traffic support personnel, operational vehicles, motorcycles, and variable message signs to inform drivers about closure times and traffic conditions. CET-Rio technicians at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) will monitor all traffic movement via cameras, allowing for traffic light adjustments and operational interventions whenever necessary.

The public should prioritize using public transportation to reach the test locations and avoid traveling by car through the affected areas during the road closures. Drivers and pedestrians should pay attention to signage and instructions from traffic officers. Crossings should be made at designated locations, using safe places such as pedestrian crossings, overpasses, and underpasses.
