New signage brings more safety to drivers and pedestrians - Rio City Hall The implementation of the Smooth Asphalt program on Rua Dias da Cruz, in Méier, provided the opportunity for CET-Rio to implement traffic moderation and harmonization projects. The objective is to promote improvements in traffic flow and safety conditions at conflict points identified by the company's technical coordination.
CET Rio carried out the necessary technical studies, in line with the Subprefecture of the North Zone, and detected the need for interventions, as follows:
1 – Rua Dias da Cruz x Rua José Veríssimo / Rua Dias da Cruz x Rua Amaragi – Field research detected the need for a crossing, due to the high demand for pedestrians, due to the extensive existing commerce.
Therefore, a two-way non-signalized crossing was implemented. Traffic engineering elements provide a reduction in speed, such as warning signs (specific signs that alert); narrowing of the lane, which naturally induces a reduction in speed; as well as the implementation of an island dividing the two flows, protected by elements such as studs, segregators and bollards, which help to inhibit irregular vehicle maneuvers, signaling and alerting drivers that there is a pedestrian crossing at that point.
2 – Rua Dias da Cruz, between Rua Vilela Tavares and Rua Galdino Pimentel – The bus stops located in front of buildings no. 421 (towards Centro) and no. 450 (towards Eng. Dentro) caused the aforementioned section to be blocked in both directions.
The solution adopted was the implementation of an inverted bus bay project in the aforementioned locations, in order to allow overtaking of other vehicles while the buses remain stopped at the aforementioned points, providing the appropriate traffic flow.
The solutions implemented, through sustainable traffic engineering measures, promoted the improvement of urban mobility and road safety along Rua Dias da Cruz.
