  • CET-Rio begins the implementation of new cycling routes in the city next week
The cycle routes aim to facilitate the connection of Rio residents with public transport - Disclosure

The city of Rio de Janeiro continues to gain new cycle routes to facilitate the connection of locals with public transport. After being implemented on streets in the city center, Barra da Tijuca and Ipanema, the measure, implemented by CET-Rio, will reach the neighborhoods of Engenho de Dentro and Cascadura, both in the North Zone, starting next week. The action has the support of the Subprefecture of the North Zone.

The connection between Engenho de Dentro Railway Station and Avenida Dom Helder Câmara, via Rua Henrique Scheid, Rua João Carneiro de Almeida and Rua Piauí, is one of the government's strategic goals, which foresees the connection of new cycle routes to all high and medium capacity transport stations.

The connections between the Campinho BRT Station, the Souza Marques Bus Terminal and the Cascadura Railway Station, via Avenida Ernani Cardoso, are also part of the strategic goal of the City of Rio.

According to the 2020-2024 Strategic Plan, the forecast is to reach 266 metro, train, BRT, ferry and VLT stations, increasing the current network of cycle paths by around 400 kilometers.

The designs for new cycle routes are drawn up based on a comprehensive view of circulation spaces, aiming at safety for everyone, especially pedestrians and cyclists.

The main objective of this initiative is to allow people to choose to use bicycles in their daily journey safely as their main mode of transport or in conjunction with public transport.
