CET-Rio installs signage informing about truck restrictions on Avenida Brasil

CET-Rio has begun installing specific signage to inform about the restriction on truck circulation on Avenida Brasil, scheduled to begin on the 16th of this month. The company is putting up banners and pennants so that drivers have no doubts about the days and times of the ban. Message boards will also be used to provide information about the changes implemented in the area.

Routes and times of restrictions on truck circulation:

Central lane, in both directions
Section: between Irajá and Caju
Days and times: every day, from 4am to 22pm

Side track, towards the Center, from March 18th
Section: between Irajá and Caju
Days and times: weekdays, from 5am to 9am

Side lane, towards Santa Cruz
Section: between Caju and Ramos
Days and times: weekdays, from 16am to 20am

 

Compliance with the new rule will be monitored using electronic monitoring equipment along the stretches, as well as by Municipal Guard agents operating in vehicles and positioned on the walkways.

Avenida Brasil is the city's main road, with an average daily volume of 200 vehicles in the stretch with the highest concentration of traffic, between Parada de Lucas and Caju. During the morning rush hour, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., heading towards the city center, trucks and trailers, considering the equivalence of these vehicles with passenger vehicles, represent 32% of the volume of automobiles in the same period. In the afternoon, between 16 p.m. and 19 p.m., this percentage is 26,5%.

Avenida Brasil is approximately 55 km long in each direction. The restriction on the central lane will be implemented on a stretch of approximately 14 km. As for the side lanes, where restrictions will only be applied on weekdays, the restriction in the direction of Santa Cruz will be on a stretch of approximately 6 km, while in the direction of Centro the restricted stretch will be approximately 14 km.

The decision to implement these measures took into account studies based on traffic flow on Avenida Brasil, the participation of trucks by observing their circulation characteristics, as well as data on incidents (breakdowns and breakdowns in general, accidents, blockages, etc.), which cause a greater impact on traffic and take longer to be resolved, when compared with the same situations involving smaller vehicles.
