CET-Rio sets up traffic plan for Military Police race this Sunday.

CET-Rio will implement a special traffic scheme for the Choque x Bope Race, organized by the Military Police of the State of Rio, this Sunday (December 14th). Road closures will be in place in the Centro, Lapa, Glória and Catete neighborhoods, between 4 am and 9 am. Runners will cover distances of 5 km and 10 km, with the start scheduled for 7 am on Rua Frei Caneca, in front of the Shock Police Battalion (BPChoque). The finish line will be at the BOPE (Special Police Operations Battalion), on Rua Tavares Bastos, in Laranjeiras.

The road closures will be progressive, following the movement of participants, and will affect important streets such as Rua de Santana, Avenida Presidente Vargas (side lane, towards Candelária), Avenida Mem de Sá, Rua da Lapa, Rua da Glória, and Rua do Catete. The Martim de Sá Tunnel will remain completely closed during the event.

The operation will involve agents from CET-Rio (Rio de Janeiro's traffic management company), the Municipal Guard, and the Military Police, who will work to maintain traffic flow, manage intersections, guide pedestrians, and implement necessary road closures. CET-Rio technicians at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) will monitor traffic via cameras to make adjustments to traffic light programming if necessary.

– Salvador de Sá Avenue, between Frei Caneca Street and Marquês de Sapucaí Street
– Rua Frei Caneca, left lane, between Praça Reverendo Álvaro Reis and the Martim de Sá Tunnel
– Martim de Sá Tunnel, along its entire length
– Rua Riachuelo, Avenida Mem de Sá, Rua da Lapa and Rua da Glória: right lane, along the entire length.
– Catete Street: right lane, in the section between Glória and Pedro Américo Street
– Rua Tavares Bastos, along its entire length, up to BOPE (arrival point)

Parking ban

From 18pm on Saturday (12/13) until 10am on Sunday (12/14)
– The entire length of Rua Marquês de Pombal, Rua Irineu Marinho and Rua de Santana
– Sections of Avenida Presidente Vargas (side lane, towards Candelária)
– Sections of Frei Caneca Street and Salvador de Sá Avenue
– The entire length of Rua da Lapa, Rua da Glória and Rua Tavares Bastos (up to BOPE headquarters)

Recommendations for drivers

– Access to the South Zone: due to road closures around the Santa Bárbara Tunnel, drivers are advised to use the Rebouças Tunnel between 4 am and 9 am.
– Cross only at marked locations.
– Avoid driving near the event, opting instead for public transportation.
– Plan your travel in advance, especially during road closures.
– Pay attention to the instructions of traffic officers and the installed signage.
