CET-Rio sets up traffic plan for technical rehearsals of the Série Ouro samba schools.

CET-Rio will implement a special traffic operation for the technical rehearsals of the samba schools of the Série Ouro of Carnival 2026, this Friday (January 23), Saturday (January 24) and Sunday (January 25), at the Sambadrome. Traffic closures will begin at 7 pm on Friday and are scheduled to end at 3 am on Saturday. For the rehearsals on Saturday and Sunday nights, the closures will be from 3 pm to midnight. The plan also includes a parking ban on several surrounding streets and access roads to the event, as well as a reversal of traffic flow.
Traffic conditions will be monitored by technicians at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR) for any potential impacts, and if necessary, traffic light timings will be adjusted to improve flow on alternative routes and main traffic corridors in the region.
Traffic agents from CET-Rio, the Municipal Guard, and traffic support personnel will guide drivers. The operation will also have the support of operational vehicles and motorcycles, which will be involved in traffic management. Variable message signs will inform drivers about road closures and alternative routes.
Recommendations
For arrival and departure from the event, the use of public transportation, such as buses, trains, subways, and light rail, is recommended. There will be no dedicated parking for the event, so it is important that all drivers respect parking restrictions and other signage in the area and follow the instructions of traffic agents and support staff. All pedestrians should only cross the roads at designated locations, such as pedestrian crossings, and always observing the instructions of traffic agents.

– Avenida Presidente Vargas, side lane, towards Candelária, between the slip road located after Rua Carmo Neto (near the Post Office) and Rua de Santana
– Benedito Hipólito Street, between Carmo Neto Street and the exit ramp of Trinta e Um de Março Avenue
– Afonso Cavalcanti Street, between Amoroso Lima Street and Carmo Neto Street
– Haroldo de Andrade Street, between Presidente Vargas Avenue and Benedito Hipólito Street
– Rua Comandante Maurity, between Rua Benedito Hipólito and Rua Júlio do Carmo
– Presidente Barroso Street, between Júlio do Carmo Street and São Martinho Street
– Júlio do Carmo Street, between Carmo Neto Street and Marquês de Sapucaí Street
– Avenida Salvador de Sá, between Rua Frei Caneca (the street next to the BPChoque) and Travessa 11 de Maio, will be closed from 8 PM to 3 AM the following day on January 23rd, and from 5 PM to midnight on January 24th and 25th.
– The exit ramp from Avenida Trinta e Um de Março to Avenida Salvador de Sá and its respective return.
– The connecting road from Rua Frei Caneca, parallel to Praça da Apoteose, to Avenida Salvador de Sá will be closed on January 23rd from 8 PM to 3 AM the following day, and on January 24th and 25th from 5 PM to midnight.
– Junction providing access from Avenida Trinta e Um de Março to Avenida Salvador de Sá
Deviations
Friday (January 23rd), from 7pm until 3am the following day.
Saturday (January 24th) and Sunday (January 25th), from 3 PM to midnight.
Vehicles coming from Avenida Presidente Vargas towards the Santa Bárbara Tunnel should follow this route: Rua Carmo Neto, Rua Heitor Carrilho and Rua Frei Caneca until accessing the 31 de Março viaduct.
– Vehicles coming from the city center and Lapa, heading towards Tijuca and Avenida Brasil, will be diverted via Rua Frei Caneca towards Viaduto 31 de Março, where they should use the access ramp to Avenida Presidente Vargas. Drivers on this route are advised to use Praça da República or Rua de Santana to access Avenida Presidente Vargas before the section affected by the event.
Direction hand reversal
Friday (January 23rd), from 7pm until 3am the following day.
Saturday (January 24th) and Sunday (January 25th), from 3 PM to midnight.
Traffic on Rua Afonso Cavalcanti will be diverted to Avenida Presidente Vargas, via Rua Amoroso Lima, which will have its direction of travel reversed in this section.
Parking ban
Drivers should pay attention to the no-parking signs on January 23rd, from 17 PM to 3 AM the following day, and on January 24th and 25th, from 12 PM to 0 AM, on the following roads:
– Amoroso Lima Street, between Afonso Cavalcante Street and Presidente Vargas Avenue
– Carmo Neto Street, along its entire length
– Heitor Carrilho Street, along its entire length.
– Avenida Marquês de Sapucaí, along its entire length
– Rua Frei Caneca, between Rua Heitor Carrilho and the Martim de Sá Tunnel
– Avenida Presidente Vargas, along its entire length.
– Benedito Hipólito Street, along its entire length.
– Afonso Cavalcanti Street, along its entire length
– Júlio do Carmo Street, between Carmo Neto Street and Marquês de Sapucaí Street
– Presidente Barroso Street, between Júlio do Carmo Street and São Martinho Street
