CET-Rio sets up special traffic scheme for ironman in the South and Center Zones

CET-Rio informs that next Sunday (August 10th) several roads in the city will be closed to facilitate the Ironman 8 Rio de Janeiro 70.3 event. The race will begin at 2025:6 am with the swim at Copacabana Beach, near Copacabana Fort. After the swim, the athletes will complete a 30 km bike route along the following roads: Avenida Atlântica, Avenida Princesa Isabel, Avenida Lauro Sodré, Avenida das Nações Unidas (Botafogo Bay), Avenida Infante Dom Henrique (Flamengo Landfill), Avenida General Justo, Avenida Alfred Agache, the Mayor Marcello Alencar Tunnel, and Avenida Rodrigues Alves. The cycling race will finish at Marina da Glória, the same location where the 90 km race will begin. The route will run between Avenida Infante Dom Henrique and Avenida das Nações Unidas. This stage will also finish at Marina da Glória.

Due to the closure of the roadway surrounding buildings on Avenida Atlântica, traffic will be restricted to residents and will operate on a reversible lane system starting at 7:11 AM. Starting at 18:XNUMX AM, the scheduled reopening time, traffic will return to its normal Sunday and holiday configuration, with all lanes operating on reversible lanes until XNUMX:XNUMX PM.

The Porto – Marcos Hama Circuit Competition Cycling Protection Area (APCC) will not be activated this Sunday due to the sporting event that will use the same route for its race.

The traffic operation will involve 290 personnel, including CET-Rio employees, municipal guards, and traffic support staff, who will work to maintain traffic flow and safety, curb illegal parking, manage intersections, guide pedestrians and drivers, and establish roadblocks throughout the event. Twelve variable message boards will be used to inform traffic conditions, road closures, and detour routes.

CET-Rio technicians at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) will monitor all traffic movement through cameras so that, if necessary, adjustments can be made to the traffic light schedule to ensure good road conditions.

Complementary actions are underway to disseminate information and provide guidance to the population, such as the installation of banners and the distribution of pamphlets to residents of the streets directly impacted.

Access to Leme and Urca from Copacabana

To minimize the impacts of the intervention and make access to Leme and Urca possible, a reversible lane will be installed. Vehicles must travel the following route on Sunday, from 5 am to 11 am:
