CET-Rio sets up special traffic plan for the Rio International Half Marathon

CET-Rio has set up a special traffic plan for the Rio International Half Marathon this Sunday (August 17th) on roads in the South Zone and downtown areas. Athletes will travel through the neighborhoods of Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana, Enseada de Botafogo, Aterro do Flamengo, and downtown. Finish times will be maintained at leisure areas.

The race will start at 6:40 a.m. on Delfim Moreira Avenue (near Cupertino Durão Street) and will continue along Vieira Souto Avenue, Francisco Otaviano Street, Atlantic Avenue, Princess Isabel Avenue, Botafogo Bay (two laps), Flamengo Park, General Justo Avenue, Alfred Agache Avenue, Expeditionary Square, President Antonio Carlos Avenue, Santa Luzia Street, Misericórdia Square, General Justo Avenue, returning to the Park. The race will finish at Flamengo Park, near the National Monument to the Dead of World War II.

The reversible lane that operates on Sundays and holidays on Avenida Atlântica, on the lane next to the buildings, will be implemented and demobilized at its usual time, from 7 am to 18 pm.

The Porto – Marcos Hama Circuit Competition Cycling Protection Area (APCC) will be activated this Sunday only along Avenida Rodrigues Alves, as the half marathon will use part of the Prefeito Marcello Alencar Tunnel.

The traffic operation will involve 250 people, including CET-Rio employees, municipal guards and traffic supporters, who will work to maintain traffic flow, prevent illegal parking, organize intersections, guide pedestrians and drivers, and carry out roadblocks throughout the race.

Traffic conditions will be monitored for potential impacts, and traffic signal timings will be adjusted to improve flow on alternative routes and major traffic corridors in the region. Nine variable message boards will be used to provide information on traffic conditions, road closures and detour routes.
