The Sambadrome will host the 2022 Carnival Champions Parade this Saturday - Tarso Ghelli/City of Rio CET-Rio has set up a special traffic plan in the city center and at all its access points due to the 2022 Carnival Champions Parade, this Saturday (30/4), at the Sambadrome. The operation will involve the participation of 260 traffic operators, including agents from the Municipal Guard, CET-Rio and traffic supporters, who will work to maintain fluidity, prevent illegal parking, organize intersections, guide pedestrians and carry out the necessary road blocks.
Trailers will be used to clear roads, in addition to motorcycles and operational vehicles for road operations. Variable message panels, both fixed and mobile, will also be used to inform about the times of the various closures and traffic conditions.
The City Hall Operations Center (COR) will be monitoring the entire event area with cameras, allowing CET-Rio technicians to implement adjustments to the traffic light programming with the aim of ensuring the fluidity of traffic.
Moving floats
On Friday night (29/4) and Saturday morning (30/4), the groups' floats will move to Avenida Presidente Vargas, with movement scheduled to start at 22 pm (estimate), however some closures will begin at 17 pm.
Scheduled closures:
17:XNUMX pm: Rivadávia Corrêa Street, in the section between Gamboa Street and Binário do Porto Avenue;
From 22am:
– Avenida Binário do Porto, both lanes, in the section between Avenida Professor Pereira Reis and Avenida Venezuela;
– Avenida Venezuela, entire length;
– Praça Mauá, both directions, the entire length;
– Rio Branco Avenue, in the section between Mauá Square and Presidente Vargas Avenue;
– President Vargas Avenue, central lanes;
– Rio 450 Tunnel, entire length;
– Via B4, entire length;
– Avenida Rodrigues Alves, side road towards the Center, adjacent to the buildings, entire length;
– Descent ramp from the Gasômetro Viaduct to Avenida Binário do Porto;
– Acre Street, entire length;
– Rua Mayrink Veiga, the entire length.
Traffic flow around Rio's bus station is expected to be affected during the movement of the floats, due to the closure of Rodrigues Alves towards Avenida Binário do Porto. Therefore, the area should be avoided during this period. People with scheduled trips should arrive at the bus station in advance.
Champions Parade
From midnight onwards, the floats should already be moving towards Avenida Presidente Vargas, at which time the immediate surroundings of the Sambadrome will be closed, such as Rua Benedito Hipólito, Rua Presidente Barroso, Rua Júlio do Carmo and Travessa Pedregais.

At 14:XNUMX p.m., the main access roads to Avenida Presidente Vargas will be blocked via Avenida Francisco Bicalho, the Freyssinet Viaduct and Radial Oeste. Traffic will also be diverted from Avenida Paulo de Frontin to Rua Aristides Lobo, and the area around the Sambadrome will be expanded to include traffic restrictions on Avenida Salvador de Sá, Rua Hélio Beltrão, Rua de Santana, Marquês de Pombal and several other roads in Cidade Nova.

At 19 pm, the last stage of closures will take place, with traffic restrictions on Rua Frei Caneca, Viaduto Trinta e Um de Março, towards Laranjeiras, and roads in Catumbi and roads close to Praça da República.
It is estimated that all planned blockages will last until 9 am on Sunday (1/5), at which point all roads will be cleared.

During Carnival, the leisure area at Praça da Cruz Vermelha will be closed. The parking lot on Avenida Presidente Vargas to support SAARA will also not be open on Saturday due to Avenida Presidente Vargas being used to store floats.
Alternative way of getting around on the day of the Champions Parade
Vehicles coming from Avenida Francisco Bicalho heading to the city center should follow Avenida Paulo de Frontin, Praça Condessa Paulo de Frontin, Rua Estrela, Rua Itapiru until the access to the Martim de Sá Tunnel.
Vehicles coming from Praça da Bandeira, heading to the Center, must access Rua do Matoso, Rua Haddock Lobo, Avenida Paulo de Frontin, Rua Estrela, Rua Itapiru and, under the exit of the Santa Bárbara Tunnel, follow the Martim de Sá Tunnel until Rua Riachuelo.
Vehicles coming from Avenida Brasil and the Rio-Niterói Bridge, heading to the Center and South Zone, must use the Marcelo de Alencar Tunnel.
Vehicles coming from Praça da Bandeira towards the city center or Botafogo via the Santa Bárbara Tunnel should follow Matoso Street, Haddock Lobo Street, Paulo de Frontin Avenue, Condessa Paulo de Frontin Square, Estrela Street, Itapiru Street, Dr. Agra Street and the Martim de Sá Tunnel to the city center. To go to Botafogo, you should follow the same route to Dr. Agra Street and take the return to access the Santa Bárbara Tunnel.
Recommendation
Always opt to use public transport, whether subway, trains, VLT or boats to access the Center and the Sambadrome, given the large number of road closures both for the parades and due to the movement of the floats.
Parking ban
To preserve the exit circulation of floats and pedestrians, in addition to the places where there are already regulations prohibiting parking, parking around the Sambadrome will be prohibited as follows:

How to get to the Sambadrome
To access the Sambadrome, it is recommended to use regulated public transport:
– Metro: The public destined for the even-numbered sector may use the Cidade Nova, Estácio and Praça Onze stations and those destined for the odd-numbered sector must use the Central do Brasil station.
– Train: You must use the Central do Brasil station.
– Regular bus lines: More than 50 lines pass through the event area, coming from different regions of the city.

Preferably use public transport (train or subway);
If you are boarding at Santos Dumont Airport or Rio Bus Station, arrive early;
Avoid driving in the city center. Look for alternative routes. There will be a large number of road closures in the area;
The City Hall will monitor the concentration of people in the Lapa region, however, no traffic restrictions are planned in the area;
Respect the areas where parking is prohibited and pay attention to the restricted times, as trailers will be circulating in the area;
In order to guarantee the safety of party-goers, we inform you that crossing must be done exclusively in the pedestrian crossing and always with extra care;
It is very important that the instructions of traffic agents and all signage installed in the area are respected;
Residents who have a private car and a parking space and need to access the closed area of the Sambadrome must do so via Largo do Estácio, always carrying proof of residence (electricity, gas, telephone bill) in their name.
