CET-Rio sets up traffic operation for New Year's Eve celebrations in the city's North Zone.

The Rio de Janeiro Traffic Engineering Company (CET-Rio) has planned traffic operations for the 2026 New Year's Eve celebrations that will take place in Ramos, Madureira, Penha, and Ilha do Governador, in the city's North Zone. The operational plan includes schemes with road closures and traffic diversions to ensure the road safety of the public who will spend New Year's Eve at Parque Madureira Mestre Monarco, Piscinão de Ramos, Praça Santa Emiliana in Penha, and Praia da Bica on Ilha do Governador.

In Ramos, Guanabara Avenue will be closed between Avenida Brasil and Rua Gerson Ferreira, from 6 PM on December 31st to 5 AM on January 1st, for the event at Piscinão de Ramos. In Madureira, the closures are scheduled to begin at 6 PM on December 31st, with reopening expected at 5 AM on January 1st.

On Ilha do Governador, roads will be blocked from 6 PM on December 31st to 12 PM on January 1st. For the party at Praça Santa Emiliana – IAPI Penha, traffic restrictions will begin at 6 PM on December 31st and are expected to be lifted at 5 AM on January 1st. – 10 agents

In total, 40 traffic agents will be involved in maintaining traffic flow, managing intersections, and minimizing any potential impact on traffic in the area, as well as guiding drivers and pedestrians. Traffic will be monitored in real time by CET-Rio technicians at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio), who can make adjustments to traffic light programming and call for tow trucks positioned at strategic points to clear the roads.

Important recommendations: respect no-parking zones, observing all signage in the area; drivers should, whenever possible, avoid driving through neighborhoods and streets where road closures will occur, seeking alternative routes; observe and follow the instructions of traffic officers.

DeviationsVehicles coming from Estrada do Portela, heading towards Rua Pereira Leitão, should follow Estrada do Portela, Rua Duarte de Azevedo and Rua Pereira Leitão.

Santa Emiliana Square, in Penha

– Rua Santa Engrácia, between Rua Santa Basilissa and Praça Epitácio;
– The area surrounding Santa Emiliana Square, except for the section of Santa Basilissa Street;

Deviations: Vehicles coming from Rua Santa Basilissa, heading towards Rua Comandante Vergueiro da Cruz, should follow Rua Quito, Rua Afonso Ribeiro, Rua Costa Rica, and Rua Comandante Vergueiro da Cruz.

Bica Beach, on Governador Island
From 18pm on 31/12 to 12pm on 01/01

– Bica Beach, between Jerusalem Square and Ipirú Street;
– Almirante Alves Câmara Júnior Avenue, between Bica Beach and Bica Road;
– Ipirú Street, between Bica Beach and Carmem Miranda Street;

– Vehicles coming from Cambaúba Street and heading to Bica Road should follow Engenheiro Rosauro Zambrano Street, Uçá Street, Cambaúba Street, Syrian Arab Republic Street, Galeão Road, Coronel Luís de Oliveira Sampaio Avenue and Bica Road;

– Vehicles coming from Estrada da Bica and heading to Rua Cambaúba should follow Rua Ipirú, Rua Carmem Miranda, Rua Orestes Rosólia, Rua Babaçu, Rua General Mário Hermes, Rua Jaime Ovale, Rua Ituá and Rua Cambaúba.

Parking Ban

Parking will be prohibited from midnight on December 31st to 12:00 AM on January 1st on the following streets:

– Bica Beach, between Uçá Street and Henrique Lacombe Street;
– Uçá Street, between Engenheiro Rosauro Zambrano Street and Jerusalem Square;
Jerusalem Square and its entire surrounding area
