Infantry Race PE BG: CET-Rio sets up traffic operation in Tijuca, Maracanã and São Cristóvão
Published on 23/05/2026 - 16:57 | UpdatedCET-Rio will implement a traffic operation this Sunday (May 24th), from 6 am to 11 am, for the "Infantry Race PE BG" sporting event, in the neighborhoods of Tijuca, Maracanã and São Cristóvão. During the race, the streets along the route will be partially closed with the accompaniment of CET-Rio agents.
The route will begin in front of the 1st Army Police Battalion, in Lamartine Babo Square, continuing along Maracanã Avenue, on the lane towards Alto da Boa Vista, next to the sidewalk, in the section between Lamartine Babo Square and Visconde de Itamarati Street. Runners will continue to Varnhagen Square, accessing Visconde de Itamarati Street, also against the flow of traffic.
The route continues along the bike path around the Maracanã Complex, a pedestrian bridge over Avenida Rei Pelé, next to the Museu do Índio (Museum of the Indian), towards São Cristóvão, Avenida Bartolomeu de Gusmão, Rua General Herculano Gomes and Quinta da Boa Vista, ending at Avenida Pedro II, near the 1st Guards Battalion.
The operation will involve CET-Rio agents, traffic support personnel, and guides, as well as specific signage to assist drivers and pedestrians throughout the race. CET-Rio technicians at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) will monitor traffic conditions and, if necessary, adjustments will be made to the traffic light programming to minimize any congestion.
CET-Rio recommends that drivers avoid driving through the closed areas during the race. Pedestrians are advised to cross at safe and marked locations. Everyone should follow the instructions of traffic officers and signage.
Partial bans
From 6 AM to 11 AM, one lane of the following roads will be used:
• Lamartine Babo Square, in front of the 1st Army Police Battalion;
• Avenida Maracanã, lane heading towards Alto da Boa Vista, next to the sidewalk, in the section between Praça Lamartine Babo and Rua Visconde de Itamarati;
• Visconde de Itamarati Street, against the flow of traffic until Varnhagen Square;
• Bike path around the Maracanã Complex;
• Pedestrian bridge over Avenida Rei Pelé, next to the Museu do Índio (Museum of the Indian), in the direction of São Cristóvão;
• Bartolomeu de Gusmão Avenue;
• General Herculano Gomes Street;
• Quinta da Boa Vista;
• Pedro II Avenue, near the 1st Guards Battalion.
