Vice-President José Alencar Tunnel to be closed for maintenance - Archive/Rio City Hall The Vice-President of the Republic José Alencar Tunnel will be closed this Thursday (February 26th), in the direction of Barra da Tijuca, from 11 PM to 4 AM on Friday (February 27th), for maintenance. Vehicles heading towards Barra da Tijuca will be diverted via Serra da Grota Funda (Avenida Artur Xexéo). BRT buses heading to Barra should use the opposite tunnel lane. Buses that normally use the lane in the direction of Santa Cruz will continue on the common lane for all vehicles.
The Engenheiro Freyssinet (over Avenida Paulo de Frontin) and Rufino Pizarro elevated highways will be closed for maintenance work, in the direction of the South Zone, in the early hours of this Friday (February 27th), between 1 am and 5 am. As an alternative route, drivers should follow Avenida Paulo de Frontin and then access the Rebouças Tunnel.
There will be specific signage to guide and alert drivers. CET-Rio operators will monitor traffic conditions and intervene if necessary. In addition, traffic light timings will be adjusted to improve traffic flow on the detour route and main corridors in the affected areas.
