Special traffic plan for G20 meeting in the city starts this Thursday

CET-Rio has prepared a special traffic plan for the G20 meeting, the meeting of leaders of the 20 largest countries, as well as the European Union and the African Union, in the city. From November 14 to 17, the G20 Social, Global Alliance Festival and U20 meetings will be held in the Praça Mauá region and in the Port Zone. On the 18th and 19th, the G20 Summit will be held at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM), in Glória.

During this period, delegations from different countries, entities and international organizations will be traveling around the city, which will require operational measures to ensure that these movements occur without interference and with minimal impact on the city's traffic.

The traffic operation will be reinforced throughout the period related to the event with the daily mobilization of 130 traffic operators, 55 motorcycles and 22 operational vehicles, who will work in the regions directly related to the event and also in the main traffic corridors of the city, such as Linha Vermelha and Av. Brasil, guiding and assisting drivers and pedestrians during the execution of traffic blocks and other road needs.

As part of the operational reinforcement, 20 trailers will be positioned at strategic points to provide support in the event of mechanical problems or other incidents. In addition, 30 variable message panels will provide information on traffic conditions and guidance to drivers.

Specific traffic light plans will be adopted on the main traffic corridors and CET-Rio technicians, at the Rio Operations Center (COR), will monitor all movement using cameras so that, if necessary, adjustments can be made to the signal programming in order to ensure good traffic flow conditions.

The Red Line, Yellow Line, Aterro do Flamengo, the waterfronts of the South Zone and Barra da Tijuca, and the Praça Mauá region will be impacted by the movement and displacement of authorities and the general public. From November 15 to 20, the leisure areas at Aterro do Flamengo and the waterfront of the South Zone will not be implemented.

The main points that will receive specific actions depending on the event are:

 

FLAMENGO LANDFILL (Av. Infante Dom Henrique)

The MAM will be the location of the main event. As a result, the Aterro do Flamengo roads will be the route for participants to arrive and leave the event, requiring that traffic be restricted and controlled to allow safe travel and precise travel times.

Given that the arrival of authorities and the deployment of security forces teams begin in advance, changes to the operation of the Aterro's runways will begin on November 15, as described below:

– November 15th (Friday), the Proclamation of the Republic holiday – on this day, security agencies will carry out activities on the Aterro roads, which will require the closure of general traffic, in both directions, between Trevo dos Estudantes and the Monumento a Estácio de Sá, from 11 am to 7 pm.

– From 12:XNUMX p.m., the roads will be reopened to general traffic. However, it is important to note that, despite it being a holiday, there will be no leisure area, since the presence of pedestrians on the roads would be incompatible with the circulation of security force vehicles in their activities.

– From November 17th (Sunday) to November 11th (Tuesday) – several delegations will arrive in the city for the main event on the 19th and 11th. From that moment on, vehicle circulation in Aterro do Flamengo will be completely controlled and restricted. Only vehicles related to the event will be allowed to circulate.

– From midnight on 0/17 (Sunday) until 11:23 on 59/19 (Tuesday) – the lanes of Aterro do Flamengo will be closed continuously to general traffic, in both directions, between Trevo dos Estudantes and Monumento a Estácio de Sá.

– On November 20 (Wednesday), Black Consciousness Day in Brazil, several delegations and security forces will also use the Aterro’s lanes for various trips. All lanes of the road will be open to general traffic, however, there will be no leisure area.

 

SOUTH ZONE SEASIDE (Atlantic Avenue, Vieira Souto Avenue and Delfim Moreira Avenue)

Since the hotels along the waterfront will host numerous delegations of event participants and will also be departure and arrival points for the delegations, there will be frequent circulation of convoys with security guards. As a result, on the 15th (Friday), 17th (Sunday), 18th (Monday), 19th (Tuesday) and 20th (Wednesday), the leisure area on the Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon waterfront will not be set up. The measure aims to keep the roads open for the delegations to pass through, since the presence of pedestrians on the roads would result in greater risk during the convoys' passage.

CET-Rio and Municipal Guard teams will be reinforced and working throughout the region. It is very important that pedestrians cross the streets safely at pedestrian crossings.

 

SUSPENSIONS OF COMPETITION CYCLING PROTECTION AREAS (APCC'S)

To ensure the best conditions for the fluidity of traffic in the city and also due to the increase in movement in the Rio Bus Station region, training will be suspended on the following APCC circuits:

– APCC Porto – Marcos Hama Circuit: Friday (15/11), Sunday (17/11), Monday (18/11), Tuesday (19/11) and Wednesday, 20/11.

– APCC Aterro – Pedro Nikolay Circuit: Tuesday, 19/11.

 

PARKING BAN

From midnight next Thursday (14/11) until 23:59 pm on Tuesday (19/11), there will be a parking ban in Leme, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca. The spaces may be used by security forces and other vehicles involved in the G20 events.

 

COPACABANA

 

From 6am on Sunday (17/11) until 18pm on Tuesday (19/11):

– Avenida Atlântica, between Rua Francisco Otaviano and Avenida Princesa Isabel. The lanes will be dedicated to the movement of delegations participating in the G20 Summit. There will be no leisure area on these days.

From 0:14 on Thursday (11/23) until 59:19 on Tuesday (11/XNUMX):
– Sá Ferreira Street, on both sides, between Atlantic Avenue and Our Lady of Copacabana Avenue;
– Rua Fernando Mendes, on both sides.

From midnight on Saturday (0/16) until 11:23 on Tuesday (59/19), on the following roads:
– Rua Francisco Otaviano, along its entire length;
– Souza Lima Street, on both sides, between Atlantic Avenue and Our Lady of Copacabana Avenue;
– Rainha Elizabeth Avenue, on both sides, between Atlantic Avenue and Our Lady of Copacabana Avenue;
– Julio de Castilho Street, on both sides, between Av. Atlântica and Our Lady of Copacabana Avenue;
– Duvivier Street, on both sides, between Ministro Viveiros de Castro Street and Barata Ribeiro Street.

From 0:18 on Monday (11/23) (Monday) until 59:19 on Tuesday (11/XNUMX), on the following roads:
– Our Lady of Copacabana Avenue, in the section between Francisco Otaviano Street and Princess Isabel Avenue;
– Barata Ribeiro Street, along its entire length.

 

RUDDER

From midnight on Saturday (0/16) until 11:23 pm on Tuesday (59/19), Avenida Atlântica will have a parking ban on the following sections:
-Between Anchieta Street and Aurelino Leal Street;
-Between numbers 900 and 974, Avenida Atlântica.

 

IPANEMA

From midnight on Saturday (0/16) until 11:23 on Tuesday (59/19), Avenida Vieira Souto will have a parking ban along its entire length.

 

LEBLON

From midnight on Saturday (0/16) until 11:23 on Tuesday (59/19), parking will be prohibited along the entire length of Avenida Delfim Moreira.

 

SAINT CONRAD

From midnight on Saturday (0/16) until 11:23 pm on Tuesday (59/19), Avenida Aquarela do Brasil will have a parking ban between Avenida Almirante Álvaro Alberto and Avenida Prefeito Mendes de Moraes.

 

BARRA DA TIJUCA

From midnight on Saturday (0/16) until 11:23 on Tuesday (59/19), parking will be prohibited on the following roads:
– Avenida Lúcio Costa, in the parking bays, in the following sections:
Between Prudência do Amaral Street and Martinho de Mesquita Street;
Between No. 3068 and No. 3200;
Between Lourenço Filho Street and Rodolfo de Campos Street;
Between Rua Padre Alfredo Perez Gonzales and Rua Adão Pereira Nunes, in the parking bay, next to the lane divider;
Between No. 2.928 and No. 2.926;
– Marcia Nogueira Batista Street, between Beatriz Segall Street and Carlos Zara Avenue.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS
Several movements of the delegations accompanied by scouts will take place on important traffic corridors in the city, which will require the temporary closure of roads for the passage of the convoys.

The main roads where there will be frequent traffic of delegations are: Red Line, Brasil Avenue, Rodrigues Alves Avenue, Marcelo Alencar Tunnel, Botafogo Bay, Princess Isabel Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Francisco Otaviano Street, Vieira Souto Avenue, Delfim Moreira Avenue, Niemeyer Avenue, Eng. Fernando Mac Dowell Highway, Ivan Lins Min. Avenue, Lucio Costa Avenue, Ayrton Senna Avenue and Yellow Line. Due to the unusual traffic on these roads, drivers are advised to avoid using them whenever possible between November 15 and 20, opting for alternative routes for their journeys.

Pedestrians, especially on the outskirts of Zona Sul and Barra da Tijuca, are advised to always use pedestrian crossings when crossing the streets, paying close attention to whether there are any convoys passing at the time, so that they can cross in complete safety.
