City Hall announces road changes in the Port Region

The City Hall, through CET-Rio, the Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar) and the Secretariat of Conservation, informs that, starting this Thursday (14/11), road changes will be made in the Port Region to enable a new alternative connection between Avenida Professor Pereira Reis and Avenida Rodrigues Alves. With this, vehicles located in Santo Cristo will have easier access to the Marcello Alencar Tunnel and, consequently, the South Zone, reducing travel times and improving the fluidity conditions of Avenida Binário do Porto and Rua Equador.

The proposal included the following actions:

– Road opening from Avenida Professor Pereira Reis to Avenida Rodrigues Alves, side lane, direction Via B4

– Installation of two sets of traffic lights at the intersection of Avenida Professor Pereira Reis with Avenida Rodrigues Alves, side lane

– Opening of the junction between the side and central lanes of Avenida Rodrigues Alves, at the height of Rua Santo Cristo

– Review of vertical and horizontal graphic signage in the affected region

– Closing of the existing junction between the side and central lanes of Avenida Rodrigues Alves, at the height of Via B4

In this way, vehicles currently traveling along Avenida Professor Pereira Reis or coming from Avenida Oscar Niemeyer will now be allowed to continue towards Avenida Rodrigues Alves without passing through Avenida Francisco Bicalho and Rodoviária do Rio, shortening the route by approximately 3,4 km, with an average reduction of approximately 13 minutes in the journey to the South Zone.

The changes are scheduled to take place after the completion of the works to install the traffic lights and completion of the signaling services.

Agents from the Municipal Guard and CET-Rio will be on site monitoring the changes and guiding drivers.
