City Hall announces road changes in the city center

The City Hall, through CET-Rio, informs that starting next Monday (15/4), changes will be made in the central region to enable a new road alternative in the connection between Avenida Rio Branco and Avenida Presidente Vargas, with the creation of a circulation binary using Avenida Rio Branco, Rua da Assembleia, Rua Uruguaiana, Rua do Acre and Praça Mauá, in order to improve mobility in the central region.

The proposal will include the following actions:

– Change of direction of traffic on Rua da Assembleia, in the section between Rua da Carioca and Avenida Rio Branco, which will now operate in both directions;

– Change in the direction of Rua Uruguaiana, in the section between Rua da Carioca and Avenida Presidente Vargas, which will now operate in one direction, from the first to the second lane;

In this way, vehicles currently traveling along Avenida Rio Branco will now be allowed to turn right onto Rua da Assembleia and then access Rua Uruguaiana until reaching Avenida Presidente Vargas. From there, they will also be able to continue to Praça Mauá.

At the same time, vehicles coming from Rua da Carioca will be able to turn left along Rua Uruguaiana until they reach Avenida Presidente Vargas, without needing to go along Rua Primeiro de Março. This is expected to alleviate the current traffic flow on this last road.

To make the changes possible, paving restoration work was carried out, geometric adjustments were made and accessibility ramps were created on the roads, services carried out by the Municipal Conservation Department, in addition to the installation of new vertical, horizontal and traffic light graphic signage on the roads whose direction was changed, services carried out by CET-Rio.

CET-Rio's planning also included adjustments to traffic light times throughout the region, as well as the provision for the allocation of traffic agents, who will provide guidance to drivers and pedestrians on the new features during the first few days of the road changes.

– Traffic light adjustments:

. Carioca Street x Uruguaiana Street;

. Uruguaiana Street x September 7th Street;

. Rua Buenos Aires x Rua Uruguaiana;

– Implementation and revitalization of horizontal signage (painting) on ​​Rua da Assembleia, in the section between Avenida Rio Branco and Rua da Carioca; on Rua da Carioca, at the junction with Rua Uruguaiana; and on Rua Uruguaiana, in the section between Rua Buenos Aires and Avenida Presidente Vargas and at the junction with Rua Sete de Setembro;

– Implementation and revitalization of vertical graphic signage (signs) on Rua da Assembleia and Rua Uruguaiana, between Rua da Carioca and Avenida Presidente Vargas;

– Installation of motorcycle parking on Rua Uruguaiana, between Rua Buenos Aires and Rua da Alfândega;

– Renovation of the paintwork corresponding to the cycle lane on Avenida Presidente Vargas and Rua Uruguaiana.

Recommendations

– Respect the new signage implemented and the instructions of the CET-Rio traffic agents and the Municipal Guard, who will be working in the region;

– For everyone’s safety, pedestrians must walk on the sidewalk and cross only at signposted locations, using pedestrian crossings.
