The support points offer rest areas, restrooms, hydration, Wi-Fi, microwaves, parking, and cell phone charging - Iago Campos / Rio City Hall The Rio de Janeiro City Hall and the company 99 presented the first results of the Driver Safe Driving Monitoring Program, and inaugurated the second Stop — a support point for motorcyclists and cyclists who work for transportation and delivery apps. The event was held in Barra da Tijuca, in the southwest zone of the city, this Tuesday (May 12).
99 was the first company to join the Driver Safe Driving Monitoring Program, created with the publication of Decree No. 57.000 in October 2025. As a result, in the first three months of the tool's operation on the platform, accidents involving motorcyclists registered on 99 fell by 24% compared to the same period of the previous year. Furthermore, 53% of the monitored motorcyclists improved their driving behavior, considering speed, braking, acceleration, sharp turns, and lane changes.
— We published a set of rules so that app companies would incentivize good motorcyclists, so that those who comply with the rules would be rewarded within the platforms, and from there, we could carry out this verification. So the city hall made a cooperation agreement that shares COR-Rio data with the app companies' data. This means that this information has become public and audited with higher quality and credibility for the population, and what we are seeing is a very clear result in these first six months since the rule came into effect. Rio de Janeiro was the first city to establish this type of partnership, both in monitoring with app companies and in support bases. And this means that the City Hall is once again at the forefront, alongside the worker — said Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.
The program also includes educational measures and sanctions for recurring cases of recklessness.
To achieve these results, the company uses telemetry to monitor motorcyclists in real time. The technology uses data from the driver's own cell phone sensors to identify risky behaviors and generate safe driving guidelines.
The tool offers detailed trip analysis, with performance ratings and indication of risk points along the route. Depending on the severity or recurrence of infractions, the motorcyclist may be temporarily or permanently blocked from the platform. All rules can be consulted in the decree published in 2025. iFood, Uber, and Keeta have also joined the program.
New support point in Barra
This Tuesday (May 12th), the City Hall and 99 will inaugurate the second support point for motorcycle delivery drivers on the platform, in Barra da Tijuca, in the Southwest Zone of the city. Rio was the first city in the country to offer this type of structure aimed at digital platform workers. The first space was inaugurated at the end of 2025, in Botafogo, in the South Zone.
The support points offer rest areas, restrooms, hydration, Wi-Fi, microwaves, parking, and cell phone charging, ensuring better working conditions for partner drivers. They operate daily from 10 am to 22 pm, with free access.
The Barra da Tijuca unit has 182 m² including built area and parking and is located under the viaduct of Avenida Armando Lombardi at the intersection with Rua Coronel Eurico de Sousa Gomes Filho.
The 99 initiative is part of a R$ 50 million investment to install support points throughout the country. Currently, there are more than 17 registered restaurants in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, 100 registered delivery drivers, and more than 40 bags, jackets, and other accessories distributed to partners in Rio.
— We remain committed to caring for the motorcycle and delivery drivers who are partners on the platform, expanding the construction of support points, which totals an investment of R$50 million, and building tools that improve road safety — concluded Fernando Paes, Director of Public Policy at 99.
