Cleanup operation in Copacabana collects three tons of debris and removes illegal structures from sidewalks.

Inspection promoted order and discarded 20 kg of food unfit for consumption - Carolina Castanho / Subprefecture of the South Zone

A coordinated operation by the South Zone Subprefecture, in conjunction with the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (SEOP) and the Local Executive Management, collected three tons of debris from the public sidewalk and seized products sold by illegal street vendors on the sidewalks of Copacabana. During the operation, carried out on Thursday night and early Friday morning (July 24), agents also seized vests and ticket books used by illegal parking attendants operating on Avenida Atlântica.

The inspection also had the support of the Municipal Institute of Sanitary Surveillance (IVISA-Rio) and Comlurb. The operation is part of a set of ongoing actions by the South Zone Subprefecture to strengthen the culture of urban order, clear sidewalks, guarantee accessibility, and ensure the right of pedestrians to come and go.

During the operation, the teams discarded approximately 20 kg of food that was unfit for consumption and infested with insects.

According to the deputy mayor of the South Zone, Pedro Angelito, the integrated urban planning actions will be permanent in the region.

"Through continuous and integrated actions between various agencies, we combat illegal activities and promote greater accessibility, safety, and quality of life for residents and visitors. This is a commitment of the South Zone Subprefecture: to care for public spaces and disseminate a culture of order as part of urban coexistence in Rio," stated the subprefect.

During the mobilization, teams from the Integrated Territorial Actions Coordination (CATI) of SEOP provided support to the Municipal Department of Social Assistance, which carried out outreach to shelter homeless people circulating in the area.

The operation covered Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, Rua Barata Ribeiro, Avenida Atlântica, Rua Dias da Rocha, Rua Duvivier, Rua Sá Ferreira, among other streets in the neighborhood.
