Comlurb is promoting this Saturday (14/06) a campaign to encourage selective collection at the street market on Felisbelo Freire Street, in Ramos, in the North Zone, starting at 9 am. The campaign began in March 2023, in highly visible points in the North, South, Central and West zones, with a focus on squares and beaches. Since last year, the actions have been concentrated in street markets in all regions of the city.

During the campaign, informative and technical pamphlets are distributed to answer questions and provide guidance to the population. The Selective Collection service serves 117 neighborhoods in the city. All the material is delivered free of charge to 30 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. The recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for the cooperative members, benefiting approximately 450 families.

Currently, collection at residents' doors is done once a week, on alternate days to household collection. The population can find out about the day and time of collection in each street on the page https://comlurb.prefeitura.rio/servico/coleta-seletiva/. If the street is not included, the request for inclusion can be made through the City Hall's Call Center 1746.

For the recycling cycle to be increasingly successful, it is essential that residents participate in this process, promoting the separation of waste in their homes. Comlurb ensures that all street markets in the city are cleaned, sweeping the entire area of the market and its surroundings, and cleaning with reused water. The Company asks for the collaboration of street vendors so that waste is properly stored in containers or plastic bags to facilitate the work of street cleaners and speed up the cleaning service.
