The Rio City Hall held the “I Want to See Clean Steel” campaign this Friday (February 14) at Morar Carioca do Aço, in Santa Cruz, in the West Zone. The action is an initiative of the Municipal Secretariat for Government Coordination (SMCG), in partnership with other government agencies, and featured an interactive and cultural program, educational activities, a competition between students from the Haydéa Vianna Fiúza de Castro Municipal School, workshops on creating soaps from reused oil, and other attractions aimed at children, young people, adults and the elderly.

– The goal is to mobilize the community to take care of our surroundings and promote awareness about the importance of environmental preservation. Through fun and educational activities, we want each resident to feel part of this collective commitment to our neighborhood and the city. The department not only monitors the progress of the works, but also develops socio-educational work to achieve family autonomy – says Edson Menezes, Secretary of Government Coordination.

The campaign seeks to encourage the community to take care of public spaces, especially during the rainy season, preventing improper waste disposal and the proliferation of pests.

The program included a competition among students, challenging participants to keep the space free of recyclable materials in the shortest possible time. The winners received symbolic prizes, such as eco-bags and reusable bottles, as well as a surprise tour of the city's cultural facilities, offered by the Special Secretariat for Community Action, through the “Tourism with the Community” program.

During the event, children were able to make their own carnival masks on site; 100 plant seedlings were given to participants. To encourage public engagement, the event was supported by the Municipal Health Department (SMS), Municipal Education Department (SME), Municipal Environment and Climate Department (SMAC), Special Community Action Department (SEAC), Comlurb, the West Zone III Subprefecture and the Local Executive Management of the region.

Dengue vaccination

At the Samuel Penha Valle Family Clinic, health agents provided dengue vaccines to young people aged 10 to 16. Also with the support of the Municipal Health Department, health and surveillance agents visited the community's streets to prevent arboviruses (diseases caused by viruses transmitted by insects and arachnids, such as mosquitoes and ticks).

Rio + Saneamento was present to clarify doubts about the Social Tariff for water and sanitation, with an interactive approach on the topic.

The event ended with the distribution of ecological fans, in addition to a performance by street cleaner Renato Sorriso and the group “Chegando de Surpresa”, from Comlurb, who toured the streets of the community performing a carnival march created exclusively for the campaign, in addition to the repertoire of awareness-raising songs.

The Morar Carioca do Aço program has already delivered 96 units to families and will soon deliver fully furnished units to another 200 beneficiary families. The program plans to build 704 residential units, distributed across 44 apartment blocks. By requalifying the region, the program promotes improvements in the quality of life of residents with urban redevelopment works and the implementation of public services in an area of 195 thousand square meters.
