Street Carnival 2027: Riotur opens registration for carnival groups.

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through Riotur, begins this Monday (August 24th) the registration period for street carnival groups interested in participating in Carnival 2027. Registration will be open until September 24th, exclusively. via the Riotur website.

The first official step towards authorizing the parades, registration allows Riotur and other involved public agencies to plan in advance all the logistics, security, and infrastructure necessary to host the processions throughout the city. In 2026, more than 400 parades were authorized. For 2027, the street carnival is scheduled to begin on January 16th.

– Street Carnival is one of the greatest expressions of Rio's culture, and the "blocos" (street carnival groups) are a fundamental part of this history. Each year, new initiatives are added to a tradition that reinvents itself without losing its essence. Our goal is to contribute to making this celebration more organized and structured each year, preserving the spontaneity, diversity, and identity that make Rio's Carnival a world reference – says the president of Riotur, Bernardo Fellows.

CALENDAR – STREET CARNIVAL 2027

24/08– 24/09: registration for the carnival groups;
25/09– 15/10: analysis of municipal bodies;
October 16–22: Release of the Preliminary Registration Document or Non-Completed Registration Document, available for download on the website. This is also the period for requesting a review of the decision.
October 23–31: Responses to requests for review of opinions and release of preliminary registration documents or registration documents that were not finalized;
01/11 - 11/01: Blocks x Agencies. Period in which the legal representative of the block must go to the competent Public Agencies listed below to obtain the mandatory supplementary documentation: PMERJ, PCERJ and CBMERJ;
January 12–14: Period for uploading the required supplementary documents to the website and release after verification of the completed registration documents;
15/01: End of sending of the completed registration document and completion of the process.
