After spending a month in the Complexo do Alemão favela, where it served more than 1,4 women and performed approximately 1,5 procedures, the mobile unit of the "Agora Tem Especialistas" (Now There Are Specialists) program, from the Ministry of Health, will move to the West Zone next week. The mobile unit offers exams such as breast ultrasound, transvaginal ultrasound, and mammography, in addition to consultations with a gynecologist, expanding access for women in the region to the prevention and diagnosis of gynecological diseases and breast cancer. Appointments are scheduled through the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS), respecting the waiting list of the Regulation System (Sisreg).

– It is very important to have the Ministry of Health acting directly in the provision of specialized services in the municipalities. The Agora Tem Especialistas Program helps to expand the offer of exams and procedures. And this women's health truck allows patients to have access close to home to services that make a difference in the prevention and early diagnosis of diseases – said the municipal health secretary, Daniel Soranz, who this Friday (28) was with the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, in Alemão to monitor the operation of the truck.

"With this kind of service, we've attended to over a thousand women in these 25 days. They were waiting for mammograms and transvaginal ultrasounds, as well as consultations with gynecologists. Here, we've already performed the mammogram. If there's any abnormality, we've already arranged for a biopsy; that is, if cancer is suspected, the patient undergoes the necessary tests. We started with 35 mobile units across Brazil, in more than 20 states. The initiative has grown, and we will have more equipment like this to care for our population," said Minister Padilha.

Women are served through SISREG, and the service is aimed at patients from family clinics and municipal health centers in the Santa Cruz region and adjacent neighborhoods. The initiative seeks to strengthen women's health care, facilitating access to exams and reducing waiting times for diagnosis and treatment. The mobile unit has the capacity to perform up to 60 exams per day and is expected to remain in the community for a period of 30 years.

Agatha Rabelo, 31, had tests done in the mobile clinic this Friday and approved of the service:

– I really liked the service. I'm in the healthcare field, and I know how to recognize qualified and humane care. It was very good, from the reception to the conversation with the doctor. I felt very welcome and comfortable. I didn't expect it to be all this; I thought I would just have a simple transvaginal ultrasound, but I was able to ask my questions and talk to the gynecologist about the hormonal aspect. The service was truly very good.

Now There Are Experts

Through the "Now There Are Specialists" program, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) and the Ministry of Health have been carrying out several actions to expand the availability of specialized services in the city of Rio, such as the recent investments in the Barata Ribeiro (HMBR) and Andaraí hospitals. At the Andaraí Hospital, several sectors that had been closed for years have already been reopened, such as the emergency room, the 10th-floor ward, and the Burn Treatment Center. At the Barata Ribeiro Municipal Hospital, a sector for the care of motorcycle accident victims has been opened, consolidating the unit as a reference in medium and high complexity orthopedics in the city.

Among other actions planned in the partnership between the Rio de Janeiro City Hall and the Federal Government are also advancements in the Super Centro Carioca de Saúde (Super Carioca Health Center) in Benfica, and the complete renovation of the Andaraí Hospital, scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026.
