The Elite Division of the Municipal Guard – Municipal Force – completed 100 days of operation in preventive and visible policing in the city of Rio de Janeiro and, together with the Institute of Public Security (ISP), presented data this Tuesday (June 23rd) showing a reduction in robbery and theft rates in its first three areas of operation: Rio Bus Station x Gentileza Terminal x Leopoldina Station, central region; Jardim de Alah, in the South Zone, both with operations beginning on March 15th; and Av. Presidente Vargas x Campo de Santana x Central do Brasil x Cinelândia, in the Center, which began on March 29th. In addition to the numbers revealing a decrease in crime, it was announced that Barra da Tijuca, in the Southwest Zone, will be the new area to receive patrols, starting on July 5th.

– Over these 100 days, we have had results that make us even more confident in the path we are taking and that prove that it is indeed possible, in the municipality, to carry out high-quality, visible and preventive policing. We made approximately 800 arrests without firing a single shot. All of this in support of the State Security Forces, the Military Police, and the Civil Police, working together and allowing us to fulfill the role conferred upon us by the Supreme Federal Court's decision at the beginning of last year, enshrining this task of preventive policing. And now, following a plan based on technical and scientific data, we will move forward to Barra da Tijuca – stated the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Cavaliere, during a Compstat meeting at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR).

Within the perimeter of the Rio Bus Station x Gentileza Terminal x Leopoldina Station, robbery and theft rates decreased by 41,7%, with a 46,8% decrease in thefts and a 31,3% decrease in robberies. In the Jardim de Alah area, the reduction was 8,5%, with a negative variation of 9,2% in thefts and 4% in robberies. In the segment encompassing Av. Presidente Vargas x Campo de Santana x Central do Brasil x Cinelândia, the data indicates an 11,4% reduction, with a 6,1% decrease in thefts and a 20,7% decrease in robberies.

The partial data comes from the Institute of Public Security (ISP) and considers records of robberies and thefts of cell phones and pedestrians, comparing the period from March 15 to June 21, 2025, with the same period in 2026, already with the action of the Municipal Force.

Throughout these 100 days of operation, the Municipal Force agents have already carried out more than 6 interventions, resulting in 771 arrests and detentions. Among the figures presented, the seizures and recoveries of 133 cell phones, 133 motorcycles, and 15 necklaces, as well as a pistol, five replica firearms, and 42 bladed weapons, also stood out.

– The work of the Municipal Force is based on very clear premises: good selection, excellent training, constant monitoring, and the use of statistical data to guide the agents' actions. And this is proving to be extremely effective in reducing robbery and theft rates and increasing the population's sense of security. We will continue working with focus and without complacency so that the results remain positive – said the Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale.

New area of expertise

During the meeting, the next two operational perimeters for the Municipal Force were also announced, both in the Barra da Tijuca region, Southwest Zone: Jardim Oceânico Terminal x Praça do Ó and Avenida Ayrton Senna x Avenida das Américas.

The deployment of personnel will take place on July 05th and will follow the same methodology as in previous areas, focusing on locations and times with the highest incidence of robberies and thefts.

With its arrival in Barra da Tijuca, the Municipal Force will now be present in 12 areas of the municipality.
