Operations Center brings mini Control Room and unprecedented 360º tour experience to Rio Innovation Week

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall Operations Center is taking part in the first edition of Rio Innovation Week, the most comprehensive innovation and technology event in Latin America, which starts this Thursday (13/1) and runs until Sunday (16/1) at the Jockey Club Brasileiro. In partnership with the Rio de Janeiro Smart City Technical Coordination Office and the Smart Luz concessionaire, the COR stand is inspired by its famous Control Room, with monitors that will display real-time camera images. Another attraction will be a unique virtual experience: the agency's first 360° tour, which can be visited using VR glasses.

The Rio Innovation Week agenda has confirmed 1.000 startups, 190 exhibitors and more than 500 speakers from public and private institutions, including from other countries. Mayor Eduardo Paes will be on the agenda to participate in a chat with the mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, about the challenges of transforming a city into an innovation hub with incentives for the generation of new businesses. The schedule of lectures will be divided into 15 stages segmented by market segment. COR CEO Alexandre Cardeman and Smart City Coordinator Felipe Peixoto will participate in the Society 5.0 segment, about the importance of innovations in the population's quality of life.

Topics to be discussed include smart cities; life science; human and social development; and natural science. Alexandre Cardeman will speak at 13:245 p.m. at the panel “Cities of Tomorrow – Solutions for a Smart City,” with the president of Assespro-RJ (Brazilian Association of Information Technology Companies) and CEO of Lab18, Maria Luiza Reis. Felipe Peixoto will speak at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. at the panel “Rio Smart City,” with Fabienne Schiavo, a PhD candidate in Innovation through Design with a focus on Smart and Sustainable Cities.

In his presentation, Felipe will show, among other projects, the implementation through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) of an Internet of Things (IoT) network that will remotely connect the new LED street lights in Rio de Janeiro and four thousand sensors, ten thousand cameras, traffic light modernization and five thousand free Wi-Fi access points for the population.

 

– Everything is managed from the COR, which will have its capacity expanded due to the projects implemented with the PPP – said Felipe Peixoto, head of the coordination whose mission is to mediate intelligent actions developed and adopted by Rio City Hall departments.

 

Some of the keynote speakers confirmed for RIW are Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, who will speak with the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil, Marcos Pontes; Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple; and Katia Vaskys, General Manager of IBM. The agenda of lectures also includes professionals such as Camila Farani, angel investor of Shark Tank Brazil; Rony Meisler, CEO partner of Reserva; Bruno Stefani, Global Innovation Director of Ambev; João Kepler, CEO of Bossanova Investimentos; Andrés de Léon, CEO of HyperloopTT; and Natalia Bayona, Director of Innovation of UNWTO – World Tourism Organization.

 Rio Innovation Week brings together different market segments that currently use technology as a basis for business growth and expansion, as well as creating new opportunities and scenarios. With a focus on stimulating networking, expanding reach and generating more connections, the event covers the following segments: Tourism, Retail, Health, Professions, Startups, Agribusiness, Sustainability and Marketing, among others. In addition to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the fair also includes the participation of the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SECTI RJ).
