CET-Rio implements traffic operation for Bloco da Favorita and Cordão do Boitatá.

The Rio de Janeiro Traffic Engineering Company (CET-Rio) will implement a special traffic operation to promote road safety for revelers who will enjoy the mega-blocks in the Preta Gil Circuit, in the city center. The traffic scheme will begin at 5 am on Saturday (February 7th) for the passage of the “Bloco da Favorita”, and at the same time on Sunday (February 8th), when the “Cordão do Boitatá” will parade along Avenida Presidente Antônio Carlos. The parades will take place from 8 am to 12 pm.

 

Several streets will be closed, including Rua da Imprensa, Rua Alfândega, Rua Buenos Aires, Rua Rosário, Rua Ouvidor, Rua Sete de Setembro, Rua Assembleia, Rua Santa Luzia, and Avenida Nilo Peçanha and Avenida Churchill. Rua Primeiro de Março and Avenida Presidente Antônio Carlos and Avenida Almirante Barroso will be closed at 5:30 AM. The streets are expected to reopen to traffic at 1 PM. Parking will be prohibited from 11 PM on Friday (February 6th) the day before the parades, and at the same time on Saturday (February 7th).

 

The operational plan includes agents from CET-Rio (Rio de Janeiro's traffic management company), the Municipal Guard, and traffic support personnel, as well as operational vehicles and motorcycles that will be dedicated to traffic guidance. The operation will also feature variable message signs that will inform about the times of closures and alternative routes.

 

CET-Rio technicians, at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio), will monitor all traffic movement through cameras so that, if necessary, adjustments can be made to the traffic light schedule to ensure good road conditions.

 

Recommendations

 

For those with scheduled appointments, such as flights at Santos Dumont Airport and trips from the Novo Rio Bus Station, the recommendation is to travel earlier.

 

Give preference to using public transportation, such as the subway and train, since these modes of transport have high capacity and are not directly impacted by road closures.
