Comlurb presents new fleet of trucks for garbage collection in the North Zone

Photo: Marcelo Piu Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes presented the new fleet for household waste collection and public waste removal this Sunday (12/01) at the Nilton Santos stadium (Engenhão). In this first phase, 30 new vehicles were delivered to serve the central area of the North Zone, which includes the neighborhoods of Grande Méier, Del Castilho, Inhaúma, Complexo da Maré, Manguinhos, Ramos and Jacarezinho.
The total fleet for the North Zone will include 160 new vehicles and almost 8 1.200-liter containers, compactors and metal waste collection boxes. The vehicles and equipment will optimize and organize the collection process, ensuring greater efficiency and quality in the Company's services.
– The suffering is over. The first trucks are arriving now and, over the next 30 days, we will have the entire North Zone fleet brand new, treating the people of our suburbs with respect – said Eduardo Paes, alongside Vice Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, recalling that the city had contract problems at the end of last year with the companies that supplied the trucks for collection in the region.
Among the 30 vehicles delivered in this first delivery are compactor trucks for home collection services, dump trucks for removing public waste, mini-dump trucks for operations in hard-to-reach areas, such as narrow streets and alleys, especially in communities, multi-cranes for collecting waste from rubbish bins, as well as water tankers for washing public spaces and cleaning streets after street markets and events.
Jorge Arraes, president of Comlurb, highlights the importance of this delivery for the city:
– Today we are starting the renewal of the collection fleet for the entire North Zone. There are 160 vehicles until February and today we are starting with the first 30 – explains Arraes, remembering that, as of this Monday (13/01), these 30 new vehicles will be in operation for collection.
According to the president of Comlurb, the city's entire fleet will have 500 vehicles and there are still two areas to be tendered: sections of the West Zone and Jacarepaguá.
One advantage of the new vehicles in the fleet is that all of the trucks, including the smaller ones that travel through communities, have automatic tipping devices for the 1.200-liter containers, which makes waste removal faster and more efficient. The 8 1.200-liter containers, metal boxes and compactors will be installed mainly in the communities.
The North Zone will also receive 210 units of the new high-tech brushcutters for cutting brush and grass in the city. In addition to speeding up and making these services more efficient, the equipment is lighter, produces less noise, and has a device that mitigates the effects of repetitive efforts during operation, ensuring greater comfort, health, and quality of life for street cleaners. They are also more environmentally sustainable, consuming less fuel and emitting fewer polluting gases.
