Comlurb installs 81 new high-capacity containers on the Southwest Coast.

In the fight against illegal dumping, the Company has delivered 14 pieces of equipment this year throughout the city - Press Release / Comlurb Comlurb delivered, this Tuesday (December 23rd), 81 more high-capacity containers, of 1.200 liters each, to the Southwest Coast, with 46 in Barra da Tijuca and 35 in Recreio dos Bandeirantes. The installation began at Praça do Ó. São Conrado Beach, in the South Zone, also received 35 high-capacity containers, which were distributed along the coastline. With the new containers, residents and beachgoers now have new options for the proper disposal of waste. The city already has approximately 14,000 of these containers, installed in all regions of the city.
With a focus on combating the illegal dumping of waste, the company has been expanding its actions since 2022 with the implementation of 100 eco-points, strategically installed at access points and within communities.
The president of Comlurb, Jorge Arraes, participated in the delivery of the equipment, alongside the president of the City Council, Carlo Caiado, and the Subprefect of Barra, Recreio and Vargens, Leandro Marques, and commented on the importance of the initiative for the city:
– Comlurb's main objective at this moment is to combat any illegal practice of irregular waste disposal in the city. And with the high-capacity containers and the eco-points, we have created a new dynamic in the organization of waste collection in the city. This has been fundamental to the improvement that the population has seen in relation to the cleanliness of the city – highlighted Arraes.
With the installation of the new containers and recycling points, Comlurb has already recorded 28% less litter thrown on the streets, equivalent to about 2.200 tons of waste per day that now have the correct destination.
