Photo: Press Release/Comlurb Comlurb will be taking its Selective Waste Collection Incentive Campaign to Edmundo Rego Square in Grajaú, in the northern part of the city, this Saturday (November 29th). Since March 2023, the campaign has been present in highly visible locations throughout the municipality, with a focus on squares, beaches, and open-air markets. During the event, informational pamphlets are distributed, and technicians are present to answer questions and provide guidance to the public. On Friday morning (November 28th), the campaign took place at the open-air market on Joaquim Méier Street, in Méier.
Selective waste collection serves 117 neighborhoods in the city. All materials are delivered free of charge to 30 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. Recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for the cooperative members, benefiting approximately 450 families. Currently, door-to-door collection is done once a week, on alternate days to the regular household waste collection. Comlurb ensures the cleanliness of all street markets in the city, sweeping the entire market and surrounding area and performing hydraulic cleaning with recycled water. The company asks for the vendors' cooperation in ensuring that waste is properly disposed of in containers or plastic bags to facilitate the work of street cleaners and speed up the cleaning service.
