Comlurb collected 1.250 tons of waste during New Year's Eve 2026.

Comlurb concluded its mega-operation to clean up New Year's Eve 2026 in the city on Thursday morning (January 1st), removing 1.250 tons of waste from all celebration points, with 625 tons collected in Copacabana alone. In 2025, the company collected 980 tons of waste, with 508 tons collected in Copacabana alone.

Comlurb deployed a total of 5.260 sanitation workers in the special New Year's Eve operation, distributed across all celebration areas. The number of containers, with 7 units of 240 liters and high-capacity 1.200-liter containers, was the highest ever. As expected, the public cooperated with the sanitation workers and used the containers, which expedited the cleaning service and ensured that the beach sand and the lanes of Avenida Atlântica were reopened to the public shortly before 10 am, with everything clean and deodorized.

The special operation in Copacabana involved 1.500 sanitation workers and 500 pieces of equipment and vehicles. The maintenance team continues working and, at 17 pm, a final cleaning check will be carried out in preparation for the beach day.

Comlurb also carried out the largest hydraulic street cleaning operation ever conducted in the city, using 26 water tankers and 26 high-pressure motor pumps. The company deployed 440 vehicles and equipment, including compactor and dump trucks, sweepers, water tankers for washing streets with reused water, mechanical shovels, and beach tractors, in support of the street cleaners' work.

The president of Comlurb, Jorge Arraes, monitored the cleaning service in Copacabana from 6 am onwards, and spoke about returning the beach to visitors clean and free of debris:

– Once again, Comlurb demonstrates the strength and commitment of its sanitation workers in delivering a clean beach to the public and clearing the roads before 10 am. We worked without any incidents, and the operational plan was followed to the letter. We are very happy with the result achieved so that beachgoers can enjoy the beach this holiday – said Arraes.
