Luiz Felipe Lins, a math teacher at Rio's Municipal Education Network, was elected Educator of the Year at the Educador Nota 10 Award ceremony Teacher from Rio City Hall wins Educator of the Year Award
Math teacher Luiz Felipe Lins, from the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Education Network, was elected Educator of the Year at the 10 Educator of the Year Awards ceremony held on Wednesday (2020/27). With a unique and creative pedagogical project that combines geometry and numbers with the daily challenges of civil construction, the teacher from the Francis Hime Municipal School in Taquara received the most votes both from the award's jury and in the popular vote. Almost 10 projects were submitted by educators from all over the country for what is considered the most important award in Brazilian basic education.
A teacher in the Municipal Education Network for 25 years, Luiz Felipe, who teaches 7th and 8th grade students in the municipal network, was very moved by the achievement and could not hold back his tears.

Rio City Hall takes a castramó bus to Paquetá for free sterilization of dogs and cats this Saturday, 31st
The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Undersecretariat for Animal Welfare, will take its Mobile Veterinary Medical Health Unit (Castramóvel) to Paquetá this Saturday, October 31st. The vehicle will be parked at the São Roque Church Square to schedule free neutering surgeries for dogs and cats on the island. There are 10 spaces available. Appointments must be made in person. The neuterings will be performed between November 270rd and November 3th.
– I have received many suggestions from the public that appointments should also be made in person, to allow those who do not have access to the internet or a cell phone to participate. Unfortunately, this is a reality. The idea is to work in the most deprived areas, providing efficient public services. The castramóvel has a highly qualified medical team, medicines and supplies for the procedures. When we offer free castration, we are also combating abandonment – said Fábio Souza, Undersecretary of Animal Welfare.

Health announces opening hours for units on Friday (30/10) and All Souls' Day (02/11)
The City of Rio, through the Municipal Health Department, informs that 24-hour units – such as UPAs, hospitals and Regional Emergency Centers (CERs) – will operate without interruption this Friday, 30/10 (optional holiday for Public Servant Day, celebrated this Wednesday, 28/10), and on Monday, 02/11, All Souls' Day holiday.
During the optional holiday this Friday, Primary Care units (municipal health centers and family clinics), polyclinics and hospital outpatient clinics will operate normally. On All Souls' Day, on Monday, they will be closed.

Municipal guards arrest taxi driver who was driving drunk in Leblon
Municipal guards from the Public Order Unit (UOP) of Leblon arrested on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 27, a drunk taxi driver who was driving recklessly on Avenida Ataulfo de Paiva, in Leblon, South Zone of Rio.
The agents were patrolling the neighborhood when they were called by a supermarket employee who reported having seen the taxi driver driving recklessly and aggressively on the road.

Rio City Hall offers a series of videos about urban legends, geography and recycling in the SME Virtual Reading Room
The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Education, is publishing another series of videos on Tuesday, October 27, from the SME Virtual Reading Room channel. This week, students will be treated to five videos about urban legends from Brazil and around the world, as well as a geography video lesson and another on recycling. The Reading Room content is organized by the SME Reading Management team, which publishes videos every week so that students in municipal schools can continue to learn and stay informed, even during the quarantine.
There will be five videos that cover Brazilian folklore and urban legends. Professor Márcia Cordeiro will talk about the history of the ahó ahó, a little-known mystical creature that is part of the folklore of the southern region of Brazil. The video is aimed at students in the Young Adult Education program. Next, there will be a video about Matinta Pereira, a legend from the northern region, aimed at 9th grade students in Elementary School.

Rio City Hall provides digital book by professionals from the Municipal Education Network about their cinema memories
The City of Rio, through the Municipal Department of Education, is launching this Wednesday, October 28, Public Servants' Day, the digital book “Cinema and memory: my film of affection”, a collection of texts by professionals from the Municipal Education Network about their memories provoked by a special film. There are 10 personal stories organized by the SME Reading Management based on a selection made between June and August 80.
The writings were chosen by a committee of teachers and journalists from among 428 stories received. The award was supported by personalities such as writer Nélida Piñon, from the Brazilian Academy of Letters, filmmaker Cacá Diegues and actor and director Ary Coslov, among others. Of the best, 10 were awarded with movie kits on DVD.

Municipal Health Department updates number of beds for Covid-19 and occupancy rate in the capital's SUS network
The City of Rio, through the Municipal Health Department, informs that the municipal network is currently carrying out the absolute majority of Covid-19 care, since state and private hospitals have closed beds dedicated to treating the disease.
It is also important to highlight that the City of Rio is the only one that maintains a field hospital – the one at Riocentro – in operation, since units from other spheres did not even reach full operation – and that, recently, private partnerships with the government of the State of Rio demobilized field hospitals.

Rio City Hall promoted this Tuesday (27/10) more special hygiene operations in communities in the city
Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through Comlurb, carried out more special sanitation operations this Tuesday (27/10) in several communities in the city. The initiative, which began in Rocinha on 9/4 and aims to reduce the risk of contamination by the new coronavirus, has already been extended to all 633 communities in the city. The cleaning is done with recycled water and neutral detergent, and hypochlorite in the sprayers.
The work involved 117 street cleaners, 50 sprayers, three car washes, and four water tankers.
